Since 1999 there have been 15 grand finals reached and between these three clubs they have taken up 16 of the 30 possible places in the Grand Final.

Roosters have featured 6 times in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2010 and 2013 and won 1*.
Melbourne have featured 6 times in 1999, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012 and won 4.
Manly have featured 4 times in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2013 and won 2*.
*To play next week

There has only been two grand finals in the past 14 years that didn't feature one of these three clubs.

2001 - Newcastle vs. Parramatta
2005 - Wests Tigers vs. North Queensland

Despite the dominance of these clubs, this is the first time that Manly and the Roosters will meet in the Grand Final since 1972, a match won by Manly 19-14.

There are five other clubs that have made Grand Finals on more than one occasion in this period and they all appeared twice. These are the Bulldogs, Parramatta, Warriors, St George-Illawarra and Brisbane. If you add them to the dominance that takes up 26 of the 30 possible places between 8 of the 16 clubs. Of these 5 sides and combined ten appearances, there were only 3 grand final wins, the Broncos in 2000, Bulldogs in 2003 and Dragons in 2010, who interestingly all were victorious against the Roosters.

The other four clubs are the Wests Tigers, Penrith and Newcastle who all won their grand final, and North Queensland who were defeated by the Wests Tigers in 2005.

I think its difficult to look at this without taking into account the storms cheating which played a not insignificant role in their dominance.

Interestingly if they hadn't been busted for cap cheating they literally could have played in every grand final between 2006 and 2012 which would have been absurd.

I'm going to watch my 2010 finals series DVD set right now.

Its going to be a long time before we are relevant in a dominant group again.

They were not legitimate appearances. They may have played in the games but that doesn't make the games any more then virtual dead rubbers.

It's interesting to note only the Titans, Cronulla and Canberra haven't played a GF since the NRL was formed

Rabbitohs, Raiders, Sharks and Titans the only teams not to feature in a grand final since 2000 (2007 for Titans).

Another effin year...

The Titans are understandable to a certain extent. Cronulla, Souffs and Canberra? Yeah, no.

broncos win in 2006 was a dead rubber?

We beat a cheating side with our own skill and fortitude. That is no dead rubber, that is a miracle. Begrudgingly, the same can certainly be said about Manly.

Ben Johnson still raced in the 100m finals at Seoul he just got disqualified. You can't just erase the fact the game took place.

It's pretty annoying. I think it's pretty indicative of the salary cap not working as intended. It's the same as the GST, it's just a blanket rule that applies to everyone but in this case not every side is located in the Sydney Eastern Suburbs or systematically cheating the salary cap just like not everyone has the same income but the GST still affects everyone the same. You'd think Gold Coast and Cronulla could get around it due to the lifestyle there (and tbh have, they have no trouble buying stars on the cheap apparently) and NZ due to the fact that it's an entire country but Canberra, Penrith and North Queensland aren't playing in an even competition here. They should get salary cap increases due to their players having to move to the middle of nowhere to play for them so they need to supply higher levels of monetary incentive.

If you want to have a proper talk on the salary cap there are a few reasons why it disadvantages Canberra.

There isn't a lot of money for third party sponsorships and the NRL for some reasons refuses to offset it with junior concessions. Its not like this isn't a mess of the Raiders making though. The football operations have been a mess and the club has been happy to just coast by since the formation of the NRL.
