A few clubs with halves/backup halves that might be realistic:

Broncos: Ben Hunt
Gold Coast: Sezer/Kelly
Dragons: Drinkwater
Souths: Keary
Penrith: Now have Wallace/Soward not sure who is backup?
Dogs: Hodkinson
Roosters: Mortz
Sharks: Robson
Newcastle: Roberts
Raiders: Mcrone (if Milford stays at Canberra)

Only decent options there are Kelly/Sezer, Roberts, Hodkinson and maybe Ben Hunt?

I think that, with the players we'll have next year, Jeff Robson would be a very good fit.

Idk if it's what Djay is talking about, but there was talk in the NRL forum about a swap, Hoppa for A. Reynolds. Sounds BS to me.

Gee. Reynolds is a very good half - and a goal-kicker. He would be a great acquisition. But I think people might be underestimating William Hoppoate. I think he will be the best outside back in the world within a couple of years. I would love to see him playing in the same side as Jarryd Hayne.

I wouldn't be keen on the swap. But, like i said, it's probably rubbish.

I don't know what the answer is at 7. To my way of thinking, we haven't had a decent 7 since Sterlo, but maybe I am just showing my age!!! I have been extremely disappointed with Sandow. I can't understand why he killed it in his last year at Souths and has gone down hill here. Maybe he is missing Redfern, if you know what I mean. I think Corey Norman will be good for us. He was playing out of position at 1. I also hope if Taylor comes, Hoppa comes too. We just need a good 7, whoever that may be. Maybe Sandow will come good after his rehab. I hope so.

Now we can all get some sleep..

Well now that the number one priority on Parra's To-Do list has been scratched off I imagine we can finally get about to number two, which would be getting a coach signed up. :p

Best of luck to Matt Keating in his endeavours up there, I could never fault his work ethic for us but IMO he was one of the players that has held us back the most. Peats should offer a great deal more to the team going forwards.

Not having a go at you, but what are the differences you see between MK and Peats?
I actually think Peats is a bit over rated on here, and quite a similar player to MK

No problems mate, no harm in asking the question!

I have stated elsewhere that I don't think Peats is anywhere near a top-echelon NRL hooker - as you alluded to, some Parra fans are definitely over-rating him by a fair margin. I believe that he is the equal (or thereabouts) of Keating defensively, which is certainly a good thing seeing as that was Keating's strength.

On the offensive side of the game, he is a solid runner from dummy half - although I have seen Bunnies supporters call him out for a tendency of being greedy near the tryline. Still, the fact that he even backs himself from dummy half puts him ahead of Keating, who rarely looked to keep the markers honest.

The quality of his dummy half service is fair, which puts him above Keating but more importantly he doesn't have the frustrating habit of standing up and holding the ball up around the ruck before passing. Given that our pack has often pack struggled to match their opponents straight up, it killed us to play with the ruck disadvantage that Keating consistently gave us.

I'm not expecting miracles from Peats but he will be a noticeable improvement from Keating on the field due to the culmination of small facets of his game, IMO.

I also recall that Poups (feel free to correct me Poups!) once shared a story on this forum about the mental toughness of Parra compared to that of South Sydney as per the opinion of his friend who helps run one of the military camps that are popular for group bonding exercises. Unsurprisingly, Parra rated abysmally according to Pou Pou's friend whereas South Sydney did very well. In particular Nathan Peats stood out as a team leader during the various drills.

If I did recall that story correctly, that is a real positive for Peats in my book. All too often the heads of our players have fallen in the face of minor adversity over the last 2-3 years. Peats might not be able to overthrow our loser culture on his own but his mental fortitude might be the means to spark some kind of reaction from the rest of the roster at points in the upcoming season.

Fair points Forty!

You are right in regards to his attacking game is better the MK. But as you said a lot on here are expecting some miraculous change, but I'm a bit more cautious.

I hope Pritchard really comes along next year and is given first crack at the 14, because I think he is our future at 9, or can at least make a very handy combo with Peats for quite a few years to come.

Although I love Parra to death and will cheer like a madman for them as usual next year, I have adopted the cautious mantra for 2014 as well. We have recruited well and in 2013 we did uncover some excellent young NRL talent but as a club we are still a long way off the pace. If we are anywhere near the top eight next year, I will be more than content (I have much higher expectations for Wenty next year however!).

Back to Peats/Pritchard, the fact that Peats can play lock fairly well is a big plus for Kaysa. It doesn't necessarily cover the spot that the fourth bench forward would fill but it does go some way to alleviating the issue. Injury limited Pritchard's pre-season preparations for 2013, so hopefully with a good off-season under his belt coming into next year, he can carve his niche into our top seventeen.

I reckon he will face some stiff competition from some of our hungry young forwards, all of whom should be pushing JT to run a 4-forward bench with the future results of their upcoming pre-season training.

Good luck to him. He was never really the right player for us in the 9 in recent years. Wouldnt surprise me if he gets picked up by the Broncos or the Gold Coast as a back up 9 option in the next year or two. Especially if SK remains at the Broncos as assistant for a while.

burleigh is aligned to the titans

would happily swap them for falloon

Good luck to him. Very loyal guy and loved the club couldn't fault him on that. Not an 80 minute hooker. His best season was in 09 as a 50-60 minute player. Wouldn't surprise me if titans pick him up and turn him into a Luke O'Dwyer type utility

Ive not seen alot of Peats, but what I have is that he is a good defender and seems pretty tough... So unless he has alot more to his game then all he will do is replace Keating. Im hoping that due to the limited times I have seen him that there will be alot more to his game, because if there isnt then we are F$%^ed
