Ignore Australia, and this has been a damn good series. f**k the negativity, who cares at the score? Park footballers were given a chance to spar with the best in the world, and most likely their idols and inspirations. The players would have loved the opportunity to represent their country, regardless of score.

It's easy to be in the 'what have you done for me lately' mindset, but let's not. Let's forget the last couple Aus games. This world cup has been brilliant.

100% agree you can see it on their faces and how proud they all are just being over there representing some sort of heritage that is in their family.

I agree apart from forgetting about Australia's games.
The Aussies have played some great, exciting football and shown the rest of the world how it's done.
Why should they not be applauded for being the best?

You can certainly do that, not holding it against you. It's just that a lot of folk find it hard to cheer on Goliath.

Hard to agree with that.

Sports primary function is to entertain. Therefore, by an alternate definition, the most entertaining team is the best one going.

Australia has gotten to the point that there's no enjoyment to be had in watching them play. In that respect, they're terrible at their jobs.

I'd rather watch England or New Zealand play any day of the week. There's just no enjoyment to be had in watching the Kangaroos play.

Agree completely. I've watched almost the entirety of the tournament. It has been brilliant and easily better than 2008. But at the pointy end of things, like in 2008, I am always left with a bitter taste in my mouth because, well, we all know why. The real enjoyment from the world cup comes from well fought minnow games with exciting football, not Australia grinding other teams into the dust like a well oiled machine. I don't care how much of a traditionalist or loyalist you are, there is very little entertainment value in what we just witnessed, and this is what will stop league from going further on the international stage unless it evolves in some way.

The big wigs need to work out a way to preserve what fans most like about the sport whilst somehow introducing measures, intra- or extra-game changes, that lead to more even games. Once they do that they need to have the balls to implement them without fans or clubs chucking tanties. If they manage that delicate balancing act you can sit back and watch league flourish on the international stage and everyone will be happy.

Ignore Australia's games! I seriously hope you said that with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Without Australia this World Cup has been nothing.

Miguel well said. We could sugarcoat this WC and pretend everything's right with the game.

We have had great crowds and some good footy played during this tournament. The minnow countries should be applauded for their efforts.

But what really counts is that Aust, NZ and Eng are light years ahead of the rest of the world and I don't see that changing anytime soon, if ever.

It was nice of the trolls to jump out so clearly in this thread.

If you're dismissing excellent footy and great crowds (y'know... the reasons the competition was staged) because the Tomahawks didn't put it to Australia or Wales turned up limp you need to re-evaluate what you really thought was going to be achieved from this WC. We knew before the competition started some minnows would be lapped, but in the process they've put in some damn good efforts and produced some awesome games. If you're stuck after the semi-finals still lamenting the fact that they were bashed around by the big three and calling woe on the WC because of it you probably don't have a clue.

A) Surely the Inglis-Slater issue is finished once and for all. Slater is a legend of the game but in 2013 he no longer compares to Inglis.

B) Both sides of the world cup debate have merit. There are good things and bad things that have happened. But there is plenty of room for improvement to make the format better next time around.

What is the point of this World Cup when players just choose who they play for?

How can Civoniceva play for Australia a couple years ago and now play for Fiji?

Same with Wallace and Wales.

It feels like such a pointless exercise filling international teams with players who weren't quite good enough to play for Australia.

I'll go as far as saying rugby league needs a rule change or two to somehow allow weaker teams to compete a bit more à la rugby union. The purists may not like it but it would hopefully be better for the sport as a whole.

No thanks. That is not a good reason for a rule change.

Wow, the wrist slitting from fans of international Rugby League here is pathetic. You should know better. The simpleton trolls like Bulldogs Force were entirely expected, they don't have the brains to know any better.

You know what. f**k Australia. I am no longer supporting the Kangaroos.
For many of the reasons mentioned above. The odds are stacked overwhelmingly in their favour to the point where others are so disadvantaged they get humiliated.

I'm not supporting that. From now on I'll be supporting the nation of my heritage, as 'minnow' as they may be. I want to feel some of what the Bati fans feel. Not this.

So f**k it. No more Roos for me.
