New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Yeah, we paid a huge price for having timid & extremely conservative leadership for 20 years- not to mention an ownership/governance structure that had a strong interest in preserving the status quo- particularly with Newscorp's keen interest in keeping the Broncos as "the only show in town".

Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

Not as team 20, absolutely not. That should be NZ 2 But 21 or 22, sure... so long as the other one in that phase is NZ 3 or Adelaide or Fiji - somewhere outside NSW/Qld.

    2025 First coach sacked

When does AOB's contract expire? I'm guessing the chance of it being renewed past the current one is "Snowball in hell".

Neither do I, but what I said appears to be what's shaping-up. I'd love to be wrong & see NZ 2 soon after Perth & PNG - but I suspect the NRL may want a period of about 5 years for those two teams to "bed in" and have player/coaching/refereeing depth grow to accommodate them.

    2025 R8 Sat - Penrith 10-26 Manly @ CommBank

The full time whistle was pretty close to the moment when Darth Vader realized the error of his ways and chucked the Emperor down the shaft. Quite poetic.

Me and the family are watching Return of the Jedi tonight. Sounds like a similar thing is happening in Parramatta right now - an empire at it's end. Hail the rebellion! ;)

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

OK, so 2027 Perth Bears enter the NRL. Last year of current TV deal, NRL negotiates-mid contract for a little extra for the 9th game per weekend in that last year - or sells it to an interested new player. 2028 PNG enters the NRL, new 5 year deal starts. 2028-2032 Five years with an odd-sized...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I've said elsewhere that this should be the Knights alternate - much like how the Panthers alternate is pink (not one of their main jersey colours) - as this would stand out far better against the plethora of teams wearing blue - especially the navy, white & red of the Roosters.. which alternate...

Once Perth has their team, I'd like to think that Adelaide will take Perth's place with a reliable regular season game or two each season to build the game's profile there. The NRL can't leave that up to the clubs, however.. and should get "hands on" brokering deals to get games there reliably.

    2025 R8 Fri - Warriors 26-12 Newcastle @ Apollo Projects

And pretty much a sellout 17k crowd in Christchurch. I hope the NRL takes note. The game is on a roll over here :)

    2025 R8 Fri - Warriors 26-12 Newcastle @ Apollo Projects

It'd work, but it wouldn't be as unique as the colour combo they're wearing tonight.

    2025 R8 Fri - Warriors 26-12 Newcastle @ Apollo Projects

I stand corrected. Seriously though, it would be a completely justifiable move for the Knights to move to this - their alternates have never really hit the spot like this would.

    2025 R8 Fri - Warriors 26-12 Newcastle @ Apollo Projects

Warriors should keep the red numbers on their back, looks really cool. Knights should use this green white and brown kit, minus the camoflage element as their PERMANENT alternate jersey, similar to how the Panthers use pink (not one of their main colours, but a great contrast against...

    WA BEARS

Whoa there - we are talking about the Bears now. The drought & let-downs THAT fanbase has had to endure makes "No Premiership since 1986" sound like nothing.

Very, VERY good point, and maybe Brad Arthur actually needed to change clubs a few times rather than be so long at the Eels? I would've loved to see him try to sort out a few clubs that have struggled in the last decade or so.. and hey maybe one would've delivered just the right conditions for...
