The TV rights thread part II

Optus has said that they are making a unique recording for each user.

Where to watch the Grand Final in Melbourne?

Supposed to be 'mostly sunny' and 18

What a Joke! Does this set the standard now

Unbelievable that this sort of thing still hasn't been sorted out.

Someone give Gallop a copy of the coverage of the AFL Grand Final...

I think I read it was worth $10 million to them. No wonder they're not in a hurry to get rid of the replay

NRL and its clubs are expected to palm-off expansion until 2014 or 2015

How would the IC negotiate the new tv contract. Could they really go "give us X dollars now, but we might have 1 or possibly 2 new teams coming in in a year or two". It just seems to me that it would make these negotiations very uncertain. And if the tv rights are signed up on the basis of a...

French RL really up against it

No. Mussolini was even crazier. Tried to invent his own code called Volata. There's an article on wikipedia about it (sorry, don't have enough posts to make the link) There used to be a much better article floating around the internet, but I can't find it :(

Storm complicates News getting out of league.

You mean that the new owners of the Storm would have to guarantee that the Storm will be around for 20 years? That's a big ask for a team that is currently losing millions per year. And I can't imagine that the NRL would be keen to sign on to take responsibility for 20 years either.

Storm complicates News getting out of league.

I saw this as a heading on one of the morning news tickers, but this is the only bit of detail I can find about it: Storm looms over News league exit Rugby league club Melbourne Storm is relocating from Olympic Park next season to the new state...

    Sharks look at leaving home

But Tasmania is an AFL area. The closest comparision for this would be the Swans moving to Sydney.

Centenary Conference of RL in Australia - Nov 2008, Sydney

Will proceedings be available after the conference? Either as audio or video? I'm interested in a couple of the lectures, but can't get to Sydney.

Change cap now or face exodus, stars warn

I'm in Melbourne and I don't think I've ever seen an add with a Union player in it. The main sport stars you see in national ads are Cricket players and Swimmers.

How to give each club a $7m salary cap

But wouldn't that come down to distribution of television revenue, which forms the bulk of clubs' income?

AFL to launch 2nd sydney team in 2012

I read an article recently (sorry, can't remember where) that used this fracturing of the market to argue for an increased value for products that can gain large audience numbers. The justification is that as the audience splits up into smaller segments, there are fewer opportunities for...

Can someone please tell Channel 9 that AFL doesn't rate in QLD and NSW

There are a couple of interesting issues here: The first is that as digital TV expands, and the networks are able to broadcast multiple channels, it is possible that each network could broadcast the football code that they have bought into all markets on one channel, while broadcasting...

RL on Nine in Melbourne and the future

I can't imagine 9 would sacrifice 6.30 to 8.30 which is what Waldron seems to be asking. I would have thought the Storms best chances of being shown next year would be in the second game slot each week. That would allow Channel 9 Melbourne to keep their regular programming until 9.30, then...
