So why can't we be like Canberra?

They'll win a premiership within the next 5 years. I am envious of the Raiders set up. As you said, half a dozen clubs turning over good coin in the region giving them cash, and realistically they have unfettered access to country players from the NSW South Coast all the way down to the the...

Here we go again ... Gallen this time

This. RCB, you constantly question why the Shire isn't behind the team. Fair question. I spoke to my old man about this at length the other day, and this is the conclusion we reached. * If the Sharks folded tomorrow, the Shire would go on as normal. No "spanner in the works". We supposedly...

http://www.pbase.com/barry_culling/image/59901753 Enjoy. My old man is an old Bluebags fan and had a few stories about him. Apparently he used to watch the Saints games from a tree near Jubilee due to the ban and used to get around in a Brown Shirts uniform. A nutter.

Skull. The infamous Saints neo-Nazi. Can't remember his full name but I think he did 6 months for belting someone at a gay rights march? He hands out The Big Issue or the like at Town Hall Stn and was banned from a few Sydney grounds for a while? Think he is even banned from Jubilee.

Sharks granted council approval for $110 million hotel and residential developmen

It remains a one-off pay out, and an income-producing investment remains the best option. Let's be realistic here. The only asset the club has is that land, which thankfully has been DA approved. Nothing else to fall back on (least of all the Leagues Club) in the event of the club needing a...

Sharks granted council approval for $110 million hotel and residential developmen

One-off income stream. What happens in 10-20 years time when the club has more than likely blown the $100m income projections, and you have no assets to provide you any income. If they were smart, they'd adopt a similar approach that nursing homes do (assuming this is retiree/aged care...

Tynan doesn't take control at Cronulla

True, and I agree that this current board seems to have the right balance. I wonder how the final two remnants of the previous board (Ward and Barnett) are feeling going forward. With regards to and its significance to a director. This alludes back to something a few posters have said here over...

Tynan doesn't take control at Cronulla

I hate the idea of relocation as much as the next. In reality, if the club is in such a dire situation that the only option on the table to ensure the club's survival in 2010 or 2011 was relocation, then naturally I would expect it to be a unanimous decision, although absolutely the last one...

Tynan doesn't take control at Cronulla

As far as I am concerned, that is what we don't want or need. It is excellent to have a corporate leader at the club who is sufficiently disconnected to the club in terms of a history of being a supporter that they are willing to make the tough decisions without fear of trampling on toes.

Tynan doesn't take control at Cronulla

Alduous is a Harvard Business School Graduate and thus an MBA holder and was the CEO of a subsidiary of the World Bank! I dare say there is more weight and corporate knowledge in that appointment than there has been from consecutive Sharks boards over the last four decades. Tynan is a car...

Trent Barrett will be considered for end of year tour: Geoff Carr

I reckon he would have been a certainty for the utility spot on the bench. Hunt and Wing won't tour now so I reckon he would get reasonable game time.

    Lost opportunities

Agreed. I thought the ref did the team a lot of favours last night. We were caught offside countless times and he didn't call it, and there was dropped ball in the ruck a number of times as well that he let slide. Poor form to lay it on them this week. They imploded as soon as Barrett was taken...

    Plum

He's starting today for the Raiders so I will watch him closely. Cronulla badly need a Dallas Johnson-type lock forward. Someone who can tackle for 60+ minutes and who can afford Barrett some protection. Barrett is a tough character but the bloke took 3 knocks to the head and kept on going. He...

    Lost opportunities

What a disappointing display that was. Gordie is, to an extent, right. You can't fault their effort as they work their ringers out. The application tonight was pretty poor. We were in it up to our necks for the first 60 minutes and then imploded. We had close to 40 tackles inside their 20m and...

OT: Teenager bashed in Cronulla Mall

I think Ronnie hit the nail on the head. The situation in the mall IS terrible. I can't work out why this particular bashing has received so much coverage - it was on the 7 News as one of the lead stories yesterday evening. I mean, a young bloke was bashed to death on Woolooware Oval last year...
