    Footy News Site

Hey guys, Stumbled across this, some interesting reading. www.worldfootynews.com

    Hungarian RL?

It's no different to Lebanon now - but it's very different to Lebanon back then, when there was a team called Lebanon, formed entirely from Sydneysiders of Lebanese extraction - but no RL in Lebanon itself. Besides, I don't know if the IOC would care about Namibia when they look at RU. Among...

    Hungarian RL?

Yeah, but is the IOC going to recognise a club, for example, who might have 30 blokes on their list as a 'national governing body'? I think you'll find they have pretty strict criteria. Italy or Greece for example, who have a side based in Sydney and a 'governing body' connected to this...

    International Results

Further down the list: Denmark 4 USA 5 Canada 6 Samoa, Nauru 7-8 Great Britain 9 Japan 10 Spain, South Africa 11-12 These are the 12 national sides from competitions outside Australia coming over to Melbourne in August. Of the other countries with leagues (ignoring the Asian...

    Hungarian RL?

Why should the IOC care about a bunch of countries with a few dozen playing?

Australian Police Squad for Argentinian Tour

Last I heard it was union players in their off-season. Run by a guy called Ricardo Acuna who was in charge of some alternative sports organisation.

    International Results

The Aussie Rules leagues outside Australia don't play each other much, but if you have a look over www.worldfootynews.com you can find what's going on.

    The haka

The Sivi Tau (Samoan equivalent) beats the crap out of the haka. Saw the NZ and Samoan Aussie Rules sides in Melbourne a couple of years ago - the kiwis did the haka, the Samoans the Sivi Tau and the Samoans were about 300 times more intimidating.

one less junior league club in melbourne

Arguing about whose fault it is is bollocks. I've heard people bag the crap out of Drummond and blame him for the state of Melbourne RL. I've also heard people stick up for him and say it was the VRL that were to blame. In the end that's entirely immaterial - the in-fighting's and total...

    Malta Rugby League

Guys, seriously - people can stick up for a bunch of non-Anglo Aussies pulling on their heritage colours and saying that they somehow mean that an entire country is now officially playing league... But first have a look at this - http://www.iafc.com.au/photos/mcphotos.html This was...

    Gippsland Rugby League

Forget St Pauls and St Annes Gippy Grammar. Gippsland Grammar would have maybe 200 kids these days - and holds no influence whatsoever. St P's isn't doing much better. The schools to tap into down in Gippsland are the state and catholic system.

    Union V League

Union is a long way ahead of league in Victoria. At a club level you're comparing a few thousand union players to a bit over a hundred RL. The other massive advantage union has is that there are a lot of locals playing, whereas among the league clubs it's mostly islanders or northern states...

Was rugby league ever played in Moldova?

It's only a minor exaggeration to say that EVERYONE with any amount of money in Russia has Mafia connections. Mafia activity accounts for somewhere between 10 and 20% of the Russian economy - some argue that it's not neccesarily a bad thing... at least this way there's some growth somewhere...

    Gippsland Rugby League

The only schools who played were Sale College, Traralgon High and Kurnai (state high school in Morwell). It was a once-a-year round robin thing - we got a day off school for it. The winner of those three (which was us both years I can remember it going on) then went down to Melbourne and...

    Gippsland Rugby League

There used to be a schools comp. I played for Sale College in the mid 90s against Traralgon High and Kurnai College. But, as said - the distances are too great for a regular comp between Gippsland sides and Sapphire Coast sides..... Bairnsdale/Lakes to Eden takes 2-3 hours one way, and...
