Kangaroos reject pay increase - earn double the Wallabies match payments

The Wallabies numbers are misleading because most of them are on general central contracts as well. Not to mention they might play many more games per year.

Ricky Stuart: "Clubs comes first" - Won't release unfit players

I can understand his frustration due to Hodgson last year, but any medical assessment has to be independent of clubs, who will never want to risk star players.

Marty Taupau defects Kiwis for Samoa

It would help the international game immensely if Origin didn't conflict through the requirement of being eligible to play for Australia. Would there seriously be a problem if Andrew Fifita played for NSW at the same time as Tonga? We're not talking about changing any other eligibility rules...

Will Kalyn Ponga surpass Billy Slater as the greatest fullback ever?

Shouldn't surprise anyone about RU - they're in a complete mess. What's weird is that Ponga has only indicated he'd like to play for the All Blacks, not the Wallabies (although lets face it to get a game for the Wallabies all you have to do is get into one of the state teams for more than half...

    Gutho or Parra

Gutherson looks pretty good to me, but he's clearly some way off being the very best. I agree that players need to learn when to pull their necks in around this stuff. Didn't Dylan Brown start banging on about how much he was worth after his debut?

    Do long-term deals ever succeed

Also worth pointing out that clubs generally give such long-term deals because some other club has made a better offer over a shorter term. Personally I'd never sign anyone for more than 4 years. Even then it would need to be a very special case because that's a lifetime in pro sport.

    Darius Bennett

Boyd isn't playing well but he's the least of the Broncos' worries. The halfbacks can't do the nuts and bolts of organising plays for more than a couple of sets before they lose concentration, and the pack contains a bunch of monster athletes who look for someone else to put in the extra effort...

News Do you care if Israel Folau returns to the NRL?

The only surprising thing about this is the timing. If he's done it to get out of his contract then its nothing to do with his religious beliefs anyway. If it is down to his beliefs then he's just another of those happy clappy christians who 'love' everyone except for huge sections of the...

    Valentine Holmes NFL career

I hope he fails spectacularly and comes back to the NRL. As with Hayne, there is zero upside for the NRL from star players making it in other sports and massive downside in terms of causing other players to leave. Not to mention leaving his club in the lurch at short notice. I'm still waiting...

News NRL leaked video scandals: Napa, May, Lane

Agree with T-Boon. Its gross behaviour and whilst recording is not 'illegal' with consent, the whole thing makes a mockery of any pretence to value or respect women. Regardless of individual cases, the game has a huge of work to do to improve the culture - and more importantly convince the...

Is it time for the NRL to stand down (with pay) players charged with a violent crime?

Sponsors will almost always be far less willing to "wait and see" than clubs - the relationship between them and a player is based entirely on the positive value the player has, and the last thing most want to be seen to do is support someone who is found guilty. For every SKD type case (which...

Val Holmes set to join the NFL - Sharks grant release

The Sharks should have refused to release him and the NRL then not register him for a year after he comes back. If he'd left at the end of a contract that's his choice, but walking away whilst under contract should not be rewarded by having the safety blanket of an automatic NRL gig. Before...
