Pick your best players in their best spots imo.

1. Hayne
2. Tupou
3. Jennings
4. J Morris
5. B Morris
6. Mullen
7. Hodkinson
8. Tamou
9. Farah
10. Fifita
11. Bird
12. Scott
13. Gallen
14. Watmough
15. Merrin
16. Woods
17. Idris

Only ones that gave me much trouble were Woods and Idris. I don't think Woods is suited to Origin at all and I definitely don't think he's suited to the bench but there are barely any props putting their hand up for it. I thought Klemmer looked suited to the type of football but he's just too young. On that note there is really no other forward sticking their hand up for a four bench spot so you either use that for a utility or an impact player and I think Idris as impact makes more sense than a Reynolds or Gidley type.

Hodkinson was an easy selection and that his name isn't in the mix is idiotic. He's been awesome this year passing, kicking and I've even seen him do good things running it and he ticks the box for goal kicking which Pearce doesn't. But we know Pearce gets selected.

That's actually not a bad team. Only changes I'd make are Lewis in for Idris if he's fit, and I'm not convinced by Tupou.

Of course Hayne would get the nod over Dugan. But you're missing the point too. Dugan is a weapon NSW need. Having both Dugan and Hayne in the same team would ideally deliver the SOO series home. Don't mention it Mate I have been following SOO!!

Dugan is a weapon?

Watch for instance game 3 last year again, he cost us 2 tries by failing to do a simple draw and pass. Its these types of plays that makes Hayne for mine a no brainer, if our halves fail, Hayne can easily step up and provide some spark to our backs.

for me this is NSW best/in form players in their respective positions at club level currently (fullback, right/left wing etc) and in brackets are other players in contention for that same specialist position.

Note: this is not my NSW team that should be picked.

Hayne (Dugan)
B Morris (Taufua)
J Morris (Jennings, Idris)
Hopoate
Tupou (McManus, Richards)
Mullen (Josh Reynolds, Maloney, Sutton)
Pearce (Adam Reynolds, Hodkinson)
Fifita
Farah (Peats)
Tamou
Bird (Hoffman)
Lewis (Williams)
Gallen

Merrin
Watmough
Cordner
Woods

Beau Scott? Another one of those we persisted with because he was an 'origin' player.

and being in good form and all that

Scott, in the 2nd row, has always performed in a NSW jersey. I dont see why he shouldnt be picked or lumped into the Ennis, Gidley, Creagh catagory

certainly rather have Scott than Hoffman.

just because your from Melbourne doesnt mean your automatically good, look at how Bellamy coached - 2 from 9..... almost as good as pearce, 3 from 12.....

Lol Dugan a weapon? If you've been following SOO why would you say that? He's bombed tries, produced four errors in one match, pussied around fielding the ball and lost every Origin game he has played. f**k has he even been involved in an Origin try?

Do you wanna nick pick every mistake then bring up the error count for all the origin players. Watch with all the Dugan haters? He is has shown form this year and now under an injury cloud.

I suppose Jennings is possibly fit now then Idris won't be considered.

Will wait and see who get selected? OK, all you Dugan haters lol

You're kidding yourself if you think Dugan has produced nothing positive at this level. But anyone saying Duges should be fullback ahead of Hayne is off their f*cking head. We need his extra play-making ability because Pearce is a useless pile of dog sh*t and I'm sure some numpty with no kicking game like J. Reynolds will get picked at 6.

There needs to be the extra option there so we can build some pressure (and take some off Farah at the same time).

not one or the other gets selected though. both are specific-side edge forwards and play on the opposite edge, although in opposition teams they will mark each other - Hoffman left; Scott right. They are also behind Bird and Lewis respectively as edge forwards anway.

the dilemma Daley had last season when composing his pack was that there weren't too many stand out props for NSW, and he believed that Hoffman on the left edge was safer and better for the team than a 3rd recognised prop in addition to Tamou and Fifita (even though Grant was always available). this meant Bird was shifted from his regular left edge position and into the middle third as Hoffman came in, and Gallen was called a prop along with Merrin on the bench.

this year, we don't have as much of an issue with props as Woods will be a better addition than Hoffman who is mediocre this year anyhow. The team will be stronger with Bird back on the left, Gallen as a middle forward with an additional prop selected on the run-on like Woods. Merrin will be the 4th prop or an additional mobile middle forward with Watmough on the bench.

the issue is Lewis on the right edge if he fails to be fit in time. even if both Hoffman and Scott were both playing lights out, Scott would get it because it's his side of the field. if Mullen gets selected, then it's a near certainty as i think Jarrod plays on the right too and there's a right-side club combo which would be invaluable in defence and attack.

That's what the QLDers have had on us for years as they've basically had the same team every series. And even when they came together in the early days, they utilised the same combinations at club - Lockyer, Thaiday, Hodges & Tate/Yeo Yeh were all right side players for Brisbane and then for QLD too.

I don't care how Jennings is playing at club. Everyone knows what he can do. He is the first centre or winger selected for mine. Left centre is his, and if it isn't there, then Daley should feel the wrath if he loses Game 1.

I thought Idris plays on the right. Apologies if I'm wrong. I don't get (or rather choose) to watch too many GC (last year) or Panfers games.

Yes, I'd bring in Hoppa in right centre or right wing. He's going to be there for years. Probably wing this year like he was 3 series ago. He may feel underdone but we know he can handle it.

I'm not sold on Tafua. I reckon he benefits enormously from being on the end of a Foran Mattai build-up. Wing is hard to select because the guys that do get noticed have the space created for them by the guys inside them, so club wingers can be made to look much better in comparison to competitors from other clubs who don't benefit from this. If he's top echelon at creating his own space, or working well in little space, has aerial strengths, is an effective relief forward early in the set and is solid in defence, then select him. A winger in origin really needs the complete package. We've been burnt regularly in recent years with this position and have always relied on Hayne to bail us out.

The pack can more than compete. Farah and Gallen need to spread the load.

No, but before some other asshole flames you for thinking so it's a fair thing to think considering he played for the Sunshine Coast side before making first grade much like Cherry-Evans. He's a Parramatta junior born in Campbelltown though. He was originally selected for City but pulled out iirc.

Daley will use a mullering of a decimated Wests Tigers outfit tomorrow night to justify the selections of Piss and Melonhead

Doesn't matter what happens between now and selection - the media have their darlings in Maloney and J Reynolds selected at 5/8th... and nothing can possibly displace Pearce. None of them have the ability of Mullen... but both are "origin players". You've even got Bird and Gall in the papers saying they want Reynolds selected. Forget having a playmaker that can provide opportunities and dominate the field with their boot... we just want someone who will try really, really hard to win.

J Reynolds offers nothing outside of a keen attitude and good support play... but don't let that get in the way. He doesn't have the defence of Mullen, he doesn't have the boot of Mullen and he doesn't have the passing game of Mullen, either. If I were Mullo, I'd give up on ever getting a look in at rep level again if he's overlooked this year. They clearly don't want him regardless of what's going on. At least, from the Knights perspective, Wayne has managed to get the Origin monkey off his back and he has been able to play well despite the time of the year. It's taken him a long time to get to this point.
