I don't think we have the big line bending forwards to play through the middle, our backline is our strength and spreading to the edges quickly is working so there's no reason to change it. Teams might be onto us but there's not much they can do as long as we play faster than them and that's what we're doing. BA has picked a style that suits the players we have and even though we're still a bit weak up the middle we're winning games so credit to him for getting the side playing well despite our weaknesses.
This.
It's all well and good that the opposition might know the ball will spread across the backline.
It's another thing altogether to be able to stop it

The reason we are scoring so many tries out wide is because our middle is holding up their defence so well. Our wingers generally go over untouched and that is a sign that the middle is doing well so the opposition can't slide across. If we were giving it to our centres and wingers to crash over it would mean that our forwards aren't sucking in the defence. A fair bit of the credit can go to Joseph Paulo for that, he holds up the middle very well and he has a passing game of a half so he can get it out the back better than most forwards can.

Surely it means the opposition wingers HAVE NO IDEA!!!

At least, that's what I learnt on this forum over the past two years.

Radradra is now up to 13 for the season (in 13 games). He still leads the NRL outright for tries scored.

Sio has 10 tries in nine games, which is equal third in the NRL with Hayne (10 tries in 11 games) and a couple of other guys on 10 tries.

Vai Toutai has only played four NRL games this year but his six tries put him just outside the NRL's top 20 try scorers for the year.

Toutai's six tries are where he played in place of Sio. Assuming Sio would have scored those tries had he played, he would be WAY out in front as competitions leading try scorer with 16.

One of Vai's tries against the Warriros was a show of strength that Sio may not have had. Then again, Tautai also dropped a sitter like 10 minutes after that too that Sio finishes in his sleep.

Great to see that the four players who have played back three for us have 38 tries between them.
Unheard of at this club since the days of Kenny Ella Cronin and Grothe snr

Shame we can't score more up the middle, might make goal kicking a bit easier.

There have been a number of occasions this year where try scorers have made absolutely no attempt to improve their position. For example Vai's first try yesterday. Players need to be more aware particularly given the teams terrible goal kicking success rate.
Over to you BA.

jinxed from the day this thread was created

BUT - finishes the year 2nd highest try scorer in the NRL - pipped at the end by teammate

I actually find is kinda scary that so many of our tries have come from wingers and hayne ... i know wingers do score alot but we are hardly doing anything up the middle
