Sonny Boy scored a try & clearly got it down on & over the line, right in front of a well positioned ref.

So what does he do.....go to the video. Dear oh dear!

Gavin Morris best enjoy reserve grade. Paul Carter threw a 3 metre forward pass offload without any other hands near the ball and instantly blew for a strip. The bloke blatantly made up something that never was. Haven't seen anything so pathetic since Paul Simpkins sent off Wade McKinnon for a phantom knee to the head.

Any word on how the trail went in the u20's for the captains call?

Continues to be used for all Fox Sports Under 20s games. Works mostly well but stoppage in play can be drawn out when looking for the camera angle which best shows what they are looking for.

As for it's addition to the NRL, have to wait until next year.

The refereeing in the Tigers v Broncos game was woeful. It was one sided and inept. Badger is not NRL standard.

The penalty to decide the game was soft. The 10 meters was not even 6 metres either that or the Broncos are full of guys that could sprint for Australia, when 4 players hit a guy when he gets the ball from the dummy half.

NRL is the game were outcomes are most controlled by the refs and last night was further proof of that.

The beauty of the captains challenge, the refs can award tries and penalties without fear of making mistakes. If a player knows he was stripped, or scored a try that was not allowed, or the player did not score when awarded the try, the play is awarded or penalised and the game moves alot faster without going to the video ref every try that happens now.
So that time saved is only used when all of us and the players on the field can see or know it is a mistake.
That is where the challenge system is light-years ahead of what we have now.
Not only do we get refs making mistakes, we also have the video man making mistakes as well.

Captains will only challenge if they are 100% positive a mistake has been made, and that is the beauty of the captains challenge.
So no more going to the video ref after every try, unless of course it is not a try that was awarded.

Look, it is the way the NFL operate, and they are a 100 billion dollar code. Do you think they would have a namby pamby system like the NRL use in place. ? No of course not, they know the best system and have it in use.
The NRL took 3 years to get rid of a cornerpost, which brought joy to the whole code, imagine the joy of the captains challenge it will bring.

Five words from Badger in the hastily packed, final minute scrum last night summed up how much of an idea these refs have:
"Heads up, but stay bound"

When hunt was taking the shot at goal with 4 mins to go the clock went for about 40secs before they stopped it, is that the rule? That the kicker gets the 40 secs or whatever it is then they stop the clock?

The penalty was a fcking joke, the ball was past maranta when Richards tackled him and the tigers had cleaned it up. It had no effect on the play at all. The tigers got penalised purely because Copley threw a shit pass.

Gavin Badger and his offsider refereed a bloody good game of football today. Very few penalties. Largely anonymous. No clangers. It was great

Something has to be done about this bullshit. That second Lui try was one of the worst I've ever seen awarded.

The answer is an immediate fine for any play or coach that even metins a refs decision on a press conference...

The calls are as marginal as they have ever been, and the standard of reffing is as good as it has ever been; but the focus it recieves and the social acceptance of questioning and condemning decisions just keeps growing.

If the player and coaches stopped blaming the refs for how much their teams sucked then threads like this wouldnt exist.

The remedy is to not let player or coaches talk publicly about it...

We will go to the video ref 99% of times now instead of 90%.

Misses like tonight just make things worse overall as refs react.

Didnt the touch judge see him drop it - he was side on & it was glaringly obvious.

Yep. It's the players and coaches fault that moron referees missed Lui drop the ball.

No. More so the fact that....

- if they have gone to the video ref, someone would have come on here talking about how "that was a waste of time and the refs should have made a decision and backed themselves"

or

- if the had called no-try, someone would have come on here talking about how "it was obviously a try. he had contact the whole time. Should have gone to the Video Ref"

My point is: just because you disagree with the ref doesnt mean he is wrong and you are right. There is always going to be someone that disagree; just acknowledge that your point of view is subjective and biased.

And even if he is wrong, thats one mistake in 80 minutes/ 5000 decisions. He is human and he didnt have the HD, Slow-Motion replays you did to make a decision. You do better from that position....
