Thought we could share a few things comparing RU to RL, specifically regarding the way they promote their international game despite some games having lopsided score lines, competing teams with tiny domestic competitions and small crowds etc...

-------------

The first one being:

Fiji beat Cook Island 108 - 6 to qualify for the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup.

Hong Kong knocked back an invitation to join the Japan Top League, citing:
- Too expensive to enter
- They don't have the player base
- Can better use the money on expanding the domestic player membership

The Asian Rugby Union Federation has restructured its Asian 5 Nations:
- The Asian top 5 being reduced to 3 because of lopsided scorelines (?)
- TV coverage disappearing in favour of livestreaming on YouTube
- HSBC deciding not to continue sponsoring the event. HSBC were injecting somewhere around $500K to run the comp. They pulled the funding and now there's no naming sponsor of the tournament.
