Do you regret home games moved

I have been wondering about this as well. I thought Sydney teams had to play at Allianz or ANZ for week 1 but about a week ago someone told me that isn't the case.

For example if Penrith finish 2nd apparently they have the right to play at Penrith as it is a qualifying final same goes with elimination finals. Week 2 of finals I think is home region semi finals and has to be played at a major stadium.

There may though be a double header that the NRL want to push for at Allianz or ANZ in
Week 1.

The person who told me this may be wrong though! Anyone know?

Your mate is wrong.

"Week One: Qualifying Finals & Elimination Finals
The highest qualifying teams after 26 Rounds will host each match at their normal home venue, with exception to any Sydney based NRL club which will play their 'home game' at either the Allianz Stadium or ANZ Stadium.

The following home City venues may qualify to host a Final in Week 1:

New South Wales / ACT:
Sydney: Allianz Stadium, ANZ Stadium
Canberra: GIO Stadium
Newcastle: Hunter Stadium"

Maybe not articulated well by the club but the strategy is to play some home games at Homebush to not only get the revenue but to show that we can get big crowds and to use that as part of the argument for Parra Stadium upgrade.

The club wants Pirtek upgraded to 30000.

Increasing capacity isn't the clubs priority for upgrades of the stadium.

I don't regret moving games, we need to win at ANZ in the finals, if we also get some money from it, so be it!

We were so close with the Tigers and Bulldogs, a slightly better team on the field for us and we win both.

We won the Darwin game so that argument is irrelevant.

Bullshit. The TV money pays the bills.

Who do you think generates the TV money? Do you reckon the 10k Cumberland Oval diehards allow the NRL to charge so much for media rights?

The NRL and clubs need to maximise all revenue streams. That's why they're pimping memberships and big stadiums. It's why they're being very flexible with dodgy third party sponsorships. Just running at a profit isn't enough - it's all about market share.

Thanks for clearing that up! When did that come in? Im guessing it was this season and was introduced in response to the whole NRL fans being locked out of games drama!

Horrible strategy

"why do we need to upgrade Pirtek, your fans travel to ANZ just fine"

NRL doesn't care where the bums on seats are, they just want the maximum number of them on the seats for their stats.

NRL doesn't provide any funds at all towards stadium upgrades do they? If they DID, then perhaps we would care what they think.

It's more that the point needs to be made to those who CAN provide the funds "upgrade the stadium, or lose business". The Wanderers being a co-tenant who are also keen form ore seating really pushes the envelope.

Exactly. It's stakeholders relating to Parra Stadium that we're trying to impress, not the NRL.

Respectfully disagree with the last part, state govco / federal govco don't want to build a white elephant that no one uses, they would want the NRL to guarantee them that a bigger Parramatta stadium is part of their short-mid-long term strategy.

Lockouts/sellouts are a great way to boost popularity.

Stuff the big grounds. They are white elephants which is why clubs need to be bribed to play there.
I would prefer to see our club lobby for a bigger part of the TV revenue. If our matches rate higher we should get more cash than others. Then we wouldn't be worried about selling pies & chips to make a buck. Leave that to others and play matches from a home ground.

Yes, it's a massive fail but increasing capacity of parramatta isn't the clubs priority.

WSW have the opposite strategy - refusing to move games & wanting to continually fill parra to demonstrate a justification for an upgrade
