The ONLY club to not make the NRL finals since 2009...

That's five years of failure folks, for our club (and ours alone).

Yes, this season was a great improvement - compared to the dismal lows of the 3P/Osborne/Roy/Kearney/Stuart era. We finally seem to be heading in the right direction.

But it's worth remembering that there are four players who have presided over this entire period of gutless pea-hearted performances:
Hayne
Mannah
Moimoi - has played his last game for the club
Ben Smith - has also now played his last game for the club
The two remaining contracted players of these four are our current co-captains, who must bear some responsibility for their sides folding like pansies in a winter breeze over the past two weeks.

My point? Hayne and Mannah are not leadership material, and we need to sign a proper leader into this playing group pronto.

We are in dire straits if these two are all we have in terms of our backbone and seniority. Mannah seems like a nice guy, but only plays for 40-50mins and doesn't seem to rev up his players in the slightest and is no longer a rep level talent. Hayne seems to only play to his potential in a light blue jersey, thinks it fair that he gets two "rest games" after the efforts he puts into origin - and then only clocks on for 40mins of the remaining Eels games anyway.

They are both individual talents to differing degrees, but are not team leaders. Norman doesn't look like he will grow into a leader, Hoppa might be a leader in the "nice guy" category but that's not what we really need. We've got a few hard head back rowers, but none that look like they could put words together easily when addressing the team or the refs.

Nathan Peats needs to become at least co-captain next year. And if Peats plays for 80mins, then what's the point of even nomniating Hayne and Mannah to continue their woeful leadership exploits?
Let Peats speak to the refs and rev up the team behind the goal posts, and get Jarryd and Tim to focus on bettering their own games instead.

Rant over, season over. Discuss if you care .
See you on here next year.

Lol. Pre those players it was "Cayless and Hindmarsh and Burt are the problem!" The more things change, the more they stay the same....

So, what exactly is it about Nathan Peats that makes him a leader? Actually quite curious.

He's tough and aggressive and he doesn't shirk the hard work or get emotional when things go wrong. He leads by example. It's pretty obvious.

Has also only played a few games for a full 80 minutes, relatively inexperienced in first grade in spite of a surprise surge of form after he signed with the eels.

Looking tough and aggressive when he plays doesn't say much + emotional is pretty subjective and ambiguous.

Can't say i necessarily agree nor disagree, but won't be surprised if he does end up being captain and bartman, or some other autistic person in these boards, makes a thread saying this team needs leaders after the first loss in 2015.

Ok so 2012 wasn't a rebuilding year. We came last and every merkin was telling us we are still rebuilding?!?!?
I guess next year isn't rebuilding and we should be around the top 4?
