Best quote i've seen on this story on facebook:

"That's amazing for a man who can only count to potato"

Strongest man is a tricky one. There are lots of different strength standards. Which is why most strength contests include a few lifts and add them together.

That said its an absolutely elite power clean so he is very strong. Jwh probably weighs about 110 kg which would put him right on an elite lift according to these strength standards.

But there is no doubt guys in RL who can hit an elite level bench press, squat or dead lift so it's swings and roundabouts really.

JWH weighs in closer to 120kg I think, not 110kg. Either way, its a bloody impressive lift.

Would be great if they would release player strength, speed, and endurance stats. Like an annual pre-season fitness test at each club which is then made public. I know the clubs want to keep this stuff secret but damned if I know why.

They did back in 07. Pound for pound Orford was the strongest in the NRL.

Explosive power, endurance, agility and speed >> strength.

I remember that I think.

Orford bench pressed something like 170kg while weighing somewhere in the 80-90kg range. Insane

Impressive lift but I'd like to see who's really the strongest.

Also why did they put this in the article "Gallen and Penrith front-rower Sam McKendry deadlift around 220kg" - that's not very impressive, especially for men their size.

I know a few guys in powerlifting/olympic weighting circles who have actually laughed at this sort of article. They are the sort of blokes who weigh much less than JWH, Gallen etc but can lift much more than them. For example, a deadlift of 220kg for someone of Gallen's weight is actually far from extremely impressive. Obviously, NRL players dont specialise in deadlifting etc to the same degree as those in weightlifting do, so they can't be expected to push the same numbers, but the numbers posted in the article aren't anything to brag about in the whole scheme of things

And if these power lifters etc put a ball under their arm and ran at Gallen/JWH they wouldn't move for a week.

I realise that. Just maintain that the numbers arent anything to brag about

Your roid monkey mates do nothing but lift weights. Let's see if they are laughing with JWH running at them at full pace with a ball in his hands. Given the endurance, skills training JWH also does means the numbers are impressive.
