Those suspensions for shoulder charges are way over the top. 1 week max. Tagatese hit Thurston around the thigh area, hardly a week suspension.

I would rather take Mason's "shoulder" charge over that stiff, swinging arm from Glenn Stewart every day of the week.

A joke.

Mason's charge is ludicrous. I see bigger hits by 40kg Chinese women getting on and off the underground metro every day.

Mason's wasn't even a shoulder charge.

He was bracing for contact imo once he realised that was just about his only option.

What a joke.

From the NRL's website -

Matalino, Mason facing NRL bans

Mon 10 Aug, 2015, 3:30pm

The NRL Match Review Committee has cracked down hard on the controversial shoulder charge with Warriors forward Ben Matulino facing a three match suspension and Manly forward Willie Mason facing a two match suspension.

There were 10 charges in total handed out from Round 22 with South Sydney forward Glenn Stewart (grade two careless high tackle), Cronulla forward Sam Tagataese (grade one dangerous contact), Melbourne forward Nelson Saofa-Solomona (dangerous contact) and Broncos captain Justin Hodges (careless high tackle) all facing a week on the sidelines.

Matulino faces a three match ban for his hit on Dragons' five-eighth Gareth Widdop in the 36th minute of his side's big loss to St George Illawarra. The Warriors prop would risk a five match ban if he unsuccessfully challenged the charge at the NRL Judiciary.

Mason was slapped with a grade one shoulder charge on South Sydney's Thomas Burgess and could miss three matches if he fights the charge at the judiciary and loses.

Manly's Jake Trbojevic was charged with a grade one dangerous throw on South Sydney's Jason Clark but will escape ban with an early guilty plea.

Brisbane captain Justin Hodges will miss one game for his careless high tackle on Brett Morris due to having 31 carry-over points from previous charges.

Cowboys custodian Lachlan Coote was charged with grade one dangerous contact on Cronulla's Jack Bird but will escape any ban with an early guilty plea.

Sharks forward Tagataese and Storm's Asofa-Solomona are both set to miss one match each for grade one dangerous contact on Johnathan Thurston and Lachlan Burr respectively. Both players have previous charges in the past two years which have increased their base penalty.

Knights forward Jeremy Smith (grade one tripping on Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) and Roosters utility Mitchell Aubusson (grade one dangerous throw on Danny Levi) will both escape bans with early guilty pleas.
All players have until 12 noon Tuesday to enter their pleas.

Looks like the shoulder charge brigade are facing longer because of prior offences.

Great stuff NRL.

Smash people in the face, dump them on their heads. All are much less serious than tucking your arm when a 120+kg prop is running right at you.

James Tamou got Prior high and late hmm

Was going to ask this. High, late, and a swinging arm.

Not the first time he has done it this year either.

The shoulder charge penalties - ridiculous. But hey, that's the game we have now - Shoulder charges to the body are seen to be worse than tackles directly to the head.

Gavin Badger - two weeks with an early guilty plea for grade one contrary eye contact for not seeing a shoulder charge right in front of his f**king eyes that everyone at the ground and on TV saw.
