What if Fox stand their ground and say, sorry, this is our final deal. Except it less then AFL's deal, or go elsewhere?

Where does the NRL go?

They won't. They cannot afford to.

We're a sport, they have share holders. The clubs will get over it, share holders, not so much. With the amount of revenue they'd lose if they didn't have the NRL, their shareholders would crucify them.

It doesn't matter if we don't get more dollars than the AFL deal, we're not going anywhere and we will prosper, like we always have.

The best part of this is how pissed off Murdick is. He might even keel over for this.

We know that, but does the NRL?

Does the nrl have to sell the remaining games?
Imagine the nrl giving the 4 remaining games to channel 9 for free for just the 2018 season, it'll hurt the nrl a bit but it'll severely cripple fox sports. Then they'd have no choice but to pay up big for 2019 onwards

Long time no post. Everyone needs to stop freaking. We don't know the half of it.

My guess is the reason that Dave Smith jumped at the nine deal is that there must be something in the pipeline for Stan. Jump at the deal, rush the AFL into pay tv, then NRL will invest in Stan and put 4 games a week on that platform. Doing this will damage presto and foxtel.

Remember Stan is owned by Nine & Fairfax, this will develop over time. So let them have their time in the sun, we may end up a shareholder in Stan and take on Netflix.

You're such a f**king AFL troll.

The AFL have had absolutly every advantage here in NSW for so long in the media, they're already having Auskick clinics every chance they get. What are they going to do next? Introduce a Newcastle and North Queensland AFL team? f**king bring it.

They can keep flushing their cash down the toilet whilst pissing off their clubs with wasted cash on a fairy tale of national dominance.

North QLD AFL team? They already have NEAFL (North East AFL?) on SBS or is it NITV? Which isn't setting the world on fire.

The surprising thing about that article doggzfan just linked is that all of the final paragraphs are dedicated to the NRL and our pay deal. Very weird considering that the AFL have barely acknowledged rugby league's existence in the past.

Where does the NRL go?

Without NRL Fox is dead in the water. Fox are losing subscribers that quick that they have dropped their pricing on some of their packages and in recent times have started including Presto numbers in their subscriber base. Considering Telstra have been offering Presto free for 6 months to any new Telstra customers that is not a good sign.

Since there is a few years to sort a deal and with the pace that new media is changing within Australia there is no hurry for the NRL to accept anything undervalued from Fox.

You gotta love how they keep mentioning how the NRL will get a $1.7 billion dollar deal. As if they would have any idea. If you would have asked them about Nein paying $925 miilion two weeks ago they would have laughed. The NRL is the most watched sport on Pay TV and FTA and deserves a deal that outstrips any deal the AFL has so far procured. Good on Dave Smith and the ARLC for not accepting Foxs first offer.

You should try blending in a little first. 1 point.

Just a realist my friend. Not swayed either way. The NRL don't have the best track record in this kinda stuff. Although the last deal was pretty impressive. It was just a confusing response by the NRL AND by Fox with their AFL comments.

Something's afoot. I'd be interested to see how it all unfolds.

The new agreement comes a week after the NRL confirmed a new four-year, $925 million agreement for free-to-air TV coverage with the Nine Network.

The rugby league deal has accelerated negotiations for the AFL rights.

Nine's deal with the NRL will involve four free-to-air games per week.

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-18/afl-on-the-verge-of-signing-new-tv-deal

It is for 5 years starting from 2018... http://www.nrl.com/new-free-to-air-television-agreement/tabid/10874/newsid/88790/default.aspx

I wouldn't take what is on an AFL website as gospel.

When did Fox Sports lodge their first offer ?
