Everyone else thought it was because he couldn't 'steer a team around the park' or he 'went walkabout' or other bullshit. The reason was for his defence. His attack was fine - his position on the Dally M table this year proved that. You can be the worst defender on the field and still poll 3 Dally M points if your attack is good enough.

Despite the obvious shortcomings in Sandows game, and from the top let me say I'm glad he's no longer at the club, I couldn't describe him as our worst ever signing. He actually did some things that contributed to the good times we had in 2014 and 2015. Admittedly he contributed greatly to some of the bad times in the same time. But I compare what he brought to the team against what an overpaid and overhyped Adam Dykes did (he was a reigning Dally M five-eighth when he joined the club was he not?), at least Sandow played with a smile on his face and was a match winner on occasions. Dykes was an expensive mistake who never once delivered anything near what we expected. Remember how happy we were to let him go and how happy he was to get back to the Sharks?!

You think that perhaps, maybe, little Brian Smith just might have had some tiny weeny part to play in Dykes' failure at Parramatta and subsequent return to form when he went back to the Sharks? Dykes was a specialist
five-eight, but Smith just had to play him as a half-back and not allow him to play his natural game. Smith destroyed more than a few good players' reputations over the years.

Anyone Pou is a good signing of decent quality. It is what output you get from them in portion to what there eating of the cap. So that what makes them bad signings.

Watmough is a good signing depending what he is being paid.Same goes for Foran and Scott.

IMO guys like Gutherson and Gordon are very good signings as would not of cost an arm and a leg.

But all may show they where good buys. I thought Watmough was decent his last 5-6 games before injury.

What the hell are you talking about???

When someone like Pou even begins to utter a sentence like the one above he had better get it totally and completely right and have no ambiguity at all.

Otherwise he opens himself up to being a total hypocrite and will be ridiculed by everyone who has ever heard him go on ad nauseam about a good signing can only be considered to be good if both price and performance are to the benefit of the club more the the player.

So sorry mate but Pou has brought this kind of shit on himself and you should know better, but then again what can one expect from someone like you. Stick it!

They were good signings in the sense that they were necessary signings - good young first graders from strong club cultures. Considering we had to pay overs for this type of player regardless of who they were, Hopoate and Lussick were probably the best signings we could have made at the time.

But if you're talking in absolute terms, I agree that those two plus every other established first grader in our squad - including Hayne - would have played for plenty of other clubs for less. That means we got less value out of them than a more attractive club would have.

However the alternative would have been to sign nobody, which made them good signings.

Agreed mate. And since none of us know what any of them were on we can only make an educated guess about what they would have been on.

Anyone who thinks Hayne was on anywhere near as little as Hopoate or Lussick is making an uneducated guess. Hayne would have been on sqiuillions. And since we were so shithouse due to lack of genuine first graders (like Hopoate and Lussick) and not due to lack of superstars (like Hayne), it follows that anything that would have brought more genuine first graders to the club would have been better than what we were doing.

If we had kept Robson for Sandow we could have bought one extra first grader. We probably could have replaced Ryan and Harrison combined with another first grader.

How many first graders could we have bought with Hayne's money?

I think hayne would of been on around 800K....And at the time that was pretty big.
Id say Hoppa was about 500k and same as sandow. Lussick 400k.
There all my estimates. So yes Hayne was on quite a bit more but offered 3 times the amount.
However Haynes next deal would of been a back breaker.

He re-signed in 2013 - after Hopoate, Lussick and Sandow were already at the club.

Did he really offer three times the amount? Hayne plus three guys in the defensive line on minimum salary every single week is a team that won't ever make the finals.

Fact is we don't know what they are or were on. Just rumour and speculation

I agree. It's impossible for a team to win a premiership with champion players like Hayne, Thurston, A Johns, SBW, Fittler, Lockyer. They simply take up too much salary cap space.

I agree. All of these champion players won competitions without being surrounded by genuine first graders. They did it all on their own.

How many of those played for clubs with constant salary cap issues? Only one. ;-)

The rest played for clubs with third party advantages (Cowboys, Broncos, Bulldogs, Roosters) or where established first graders took unders to stay (Cowboys, Broncos, Knights). Those clubs could afford expensive stars. The rest of us (e.g. Eels, Panthers, Raiders, Sea Eagles, Tigers, Dragons, Sharks) need to be more thrifty.

FFS Raelene Castle just get it done! Just do whatever it takes to lock him up long term! No amount of money is too much! FFS! Should have been done months ago!!! Why the f**k did they wait so long?!?!?

Who they really need to lock up is ThyRam and his 20/20 hindsight

What do you mean by third party advantages? Which established first graders took unders to stay at the clubs you mentioned?
