Roosters deny rumours Michael Jennings will join Parramatta
SYDNEY Roosters boss Brian Canavan has insisted Michael Jennings was in the club?s plans for 2016, despite speculation he is about to join the club he once despised, Parramatta.

They are telling the truth

Maybe taka centre and gutherson on the wing would be the better way to start.

Takairangi is average at best and slow as a wet week. Explosive speed and lightning footwork is what a NRL centre needs and he has neither. The bloke is massively overrated on here..

From all reports there was never a contract, he signed something but it was never an NRL contract.

Your sentence refers to 2 distinctly different instruments. Do you really think that the court case would have proceeded if there wasn't a written offer? The one thing we do know is there is no registered NRL contract, but that has never been in dispute.

The story seems to b that the Eels did send Hoppa an offer for a 3 year term (this doesn't seem to be in dispute by the parties just by people on this forum). There also exists a signed (by Hoppa) contract in the standard NRL form dated one week after the offer, with a different total base wage and different allocation annual salary. This agreement was not forwarded to the NRL. Exactly how the two documents came to exist in the form that they did, and what communications were made with respect to their negotiation by Hoppa's representatives and by the club's officers is key.

The 'facts' as stated in this article, while incomplete, seem plausible to me:

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/the-supreme-court-contract-saga-engulfing-will-hopoate-and-the-parramatta-eels/story-fnp0lyn3-1227615873715

If the court does rule in Hoppa's favour, or the parties settle privately, it is not going to be difficult for the NRL to detect a large payment by the club to the Hopster (even if the settlement is confidential). They have the right to audit our books.

Baz so why has he now signed with the Dogs?? They were hoping we would be paying most of his wages the next few years but it looks like that blew up in their face and they had to pay him full price.

It will be interesting to see what happens but surely if we have had the money for Hiku and now Jennings this mess might have all been resolved???

And why should a payment to Hoppa count towards the cap when the transfer fee paid by Souths to get Surgess over here wasn't???

What a load of shit.

Jamie Lyon has been the best centre week in week out and he relies more on ball playing ability than explosive speed and lightning footwork.

They don't "need" it.

His defence is shit but his speed in attack is ok and he can set up others and finish a try.

He didn't have much choice but to sign for another club. Parra made it clear they were not going to honour either of the original 'contracts' / 'offers'. Signing for another club, after giving the Eels plenty of opportunity to honour what Hoppa believes was the original deal crystalises the losses.

Who knows what communications have been b/w the Eels and the NRL though....anyone's guess.

How are they in any way related? A transfer fee is paid to other club, not to the player. But I thought that the NRL had since decided that transfer fees were going to be assessed (I may be wrong).

So many unanswered questions.

If the dogs are paying full freight for Hopppa, then how can he be claiming money from the Eels for playing in the same contract period that the doggies are paying him for ?

Given the fact that he is playing for someone else, how can he claim money from us for the same period (assuming this is the case). His contract with the eels expired in November last year.

There is so much that we dont know.

We don't know the dogs are paying full frieght. They are obviously paying him something but Hoppa/Smith may also be counting on the Eels to top up payment after the court settlement.

Nah, Lyons used to be super quick, with a great swerve. He is still pretty fast, and still got good footwork. The ball playing is just icing on the cake.

Anyway it's Takairangi's lack of speed that makes his defence shitty.

We offered a more then fair deal and he held out and took us to court. Which is his right. But now that he has signed elsewhere you would think that things might have finally been resolved. Who knows we all know what a clusterf**k it all was but if the NRL rules it against the cap it pretty much f**ks us again.
