crumbly, low bouncing pitches.

It's brought up alot when Australia bats over there, how they aren't used to (and then aren't willing to adjust to) that style of pitch. It's extreely true of bowling though. Spinner grow up using bounce as a central part of how they take wickets. They struggle without that bounce over there.

Indian pitches aren't great for the game IMO but pretty typical of test cricket in recent years (outside South Africa) - sides don't make the adjustment to conditions different to their home ones.

Definitely this. The NZ spinners aren't used to bowling on these kinds of tracks any more than the batsmen are used to batting on them. You'll also notice that often non-Indian spinners bowl for big spin on these wickets, which doesn't work most of the time. Watch guys like Ashwin and Jadeja on wickets like this, they will bowl the big ripping deliveries but more often than not it's the ball that straightens with the arm or only turns a bit that gets the wicket. Overseas spinners don't have the variation and control that Indian spinners do, because they don't get the chance to develop their game on turning pitches.

Any pitch that makes Jadeja look like a decent bowler is a shit one.

Jadeja is a classic home pitch hero. Bowls well on wickets tailor made for him, shithouse everywhere else. At least Ashwin can sometimes bowl well overseas.

Santner got it right on that dismissal. Bit of angle, some drift and straightening with the arm. It's no good ripping it past the bat like Sodhi is apparently trying to do

Sure, but pitches that make Burns, Khawaja and Voges look great are pretty dire too

Ashwin is good, and they bowl well in these conditions, it is what it is

Fair call on the aussie pitches as well, most of us on here have been saying it for years.

Australian like performance by the kiwis

Such a promising start after losing the toss

Wonder how close India will go to 13-0 ?

Just read Ashwin is the second fastest (in tests) to 200 test wickets - pretty impressive, only a Kiwi quicker!

Seems like Craig is out, and Jeetan Patel has been called in... India should just surrender now, Dave's on his way!

Inspired call to bring Dave in from the wilderness, I always thought he never fulfilled his potential and now's his chance. Nothing to lose and he couldn't ask for better decks.

This is some great steel from New Zealand, probably won't be enough but if we just figure out how to bowl on these decks we'll be right. We've got the stomach for a fight. Guptill might as well just start slogging and hope he pulls off a BMac type innings.

I don't know how I feel about Ashwin's record, it's obviously cherry picked and he gets a huge glut of wickets on tailor made decks. We turned Andre Adams into a swinging menace. But then again I don't actually have a big problem with favorable home conditions, it's what makes cricket fascinating and it absolutely shits me that teams all around the world are now building Indian batting tracks instead of using home to their advantage.

Bring them down here on green tops and we'll school them like it's 2002.

Almost over, NZ have done all right to take it this far but India far too good in these conditions.

If Southee was there he'd have tried to smack the ball to Abu Dhabi for an epic 12 off 6
