QANTASLINK RUGBY LEAGUE CLINICS
8 February 2005

The 2005 QantasLink Rugby League clinics have been launched as the spearhead of Rugby League’s biggest recruitment drive.

The ground breaking QantasLink Programmes of the last two years have already coincided with the highest player registration figures every recorded for Rugby League.

As 60 of the game’s biggest names prepare to visit 40 destinations across Queensland, NSW, South Australia and Western Australia next Wednesday and Thursday (Feb 16-17), ARL Development will launch the game’s first National Junior Registration week.

From February 14-21 boys and girls of all abilities can locate their nearest team through www.playrugbyleague.com.au.

“There’s no doubt that we head to the 2005 Telstra Premiership kick off with the most exciting crop of young stars the game has seen,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop said today.

“As the likes of Sonny Bill Williams, Karmichael Hunt and Brett Stewart emerge at NRL level we are seeing record growth at junior level.

“Along with the work of the team at ARL development and additional NRL funding to the grass roots of the game, the QantasLink clinics continue to play an important role.

“They are a reminder of the strength of Rugby League’s ties with the community and of the positive role it plays in peoples lives.”

Over the years players at the QantasLink Clinics have found themselves, digging for gold, looking to the stars through a Radio Telescope and feeding animals at the Dubbo Zoo.

This year’s activities include mining near Mackay as well as visiting the ‘birthplace’ of Qantas, Longreach, as players get involved in community fund raisers, school visits and coaching clinics.

NRL CEO David Gallop will join Gorden Tallis, Billy Slater and Steve Bell in Queensland.

“It’s an event that each year gives the players a real lift and a reminder of how important this game is to so many people,” Mr Gallop said.
