Thought Auva'a has done a pretty good on the wing, better then I expected. Has the power game to ruck it out and is faster then I thought he was. Also seems ok defensively and can score a try - has positioned himself nicely on our set plays. Obviously his big problem is the high ball, a good offseason could fix that.

Not sure how much experience he has had on the wing too, seems to have played mainly centre at his previous clubs.

Hell yeah ... womens and touch footy participation is up .... ummmm, compared to zero

What will help the crowds stop falling .... the government building stadiums .... really? thats our only strategy? ... nothing else the nrl can do? - just wait for the govt to spend money? ... people used to sit in dirt and get splinters in their bums - but they turned up in bigger numbers
TV is killing attendance.

I remember when he was at the Bulldogs he gave the impression of someone who was in control and knew what he was doing. When he started running the NRL we've had no finalised salary cap going into next season, awful scheduling of games (e.g 6pm Fridays), poor refereeing and a drop in crowd attendances. He's awful.

Have we found out what's happening with the NYC next season either? It's disappearing isn't it? Yet we don't know what is replacing it still.

Whatever replaces it, the top under 20s talent won't be playing against merkins their own age. As for their contracts, it will better reflect the way they are remunerated right now.

Currently the NYC has a salary cap ($250k for the top 20) that implies some reasonable contract for 20 under 20s players. But the reality is that NRL teams have all figured out there aren't 320 (16 x 20) NYC aged players with NRL potential, and talent identification has become a pretty well refined science. So those under 20s players with NRL potential are all well known and in high demand. This has led to their prices blowing out such that they either get top 25 NRL contracts (like Dargan this year) or they become one of about half a dozen players in the NYC squad sharing 90% of the money. The other 14 or so squad members would then be sharing $25k (just an estimate). That's a sign on fee of only a couple of grand at most - most of their cost (to the NRL clubs) would be room and board plus school or uni fees. And the only reason the clubs spend this money is because they need to field a 17 man NYC team each week.

Get rid of the NYC and clubs will still be signing the players with NRL potential (I believe there will be six 'rookie' slots per club), but now they don't have to sign 14 other nuffies and send them to Townsville or Auckland or Melbourne every other week. I'd say any of the rookie contract players not ready to play against grown men in the revamped reserve grade competition will be loaned out to one of the state cup affiliated under 20s teams.

Parramatta’s Semi Radradra replacement plans for 2018 revealed

PARRAMATTA are considering keeping a roster spot vacant for Semi Radradra in case he returns next season.

Foxsports.com.au understands the Eels have four places on their roster vacant ahead of the 2018 season and in no hurry to fill them.

While the Eels are also exploring the market both in the NRL, overseas and rival codes, a suitable replacement for Radradra is yet to present himself.

It’s understood rugby convert Marika Koroibete was a consideration some months ago however, due to his asking price, the club never pursued that option.

Still, Radradra returning to the NRL as soon as 2018 is a genuine possibility.

The flying Fijian signed a lucrative two-year-deal with French-based rugby side Toulon earlier this year and will join the rival code effective immediately as their season has already kicked off.

French rugby’s Top 14 season goes until May and Radradra’s contract is one year with an option for a second.

If desired, the flyer could return mid-season and finish the year with the Eels.

“It’s disappointing for Semi to go out on those terms,” Eels coach Brad Arthur said after last Saturday’s finals loss to North Queensland.

“He’s been great for our club.

“He’s worked extremely hard to get himself to the football he is right now and at some stage we’d like to have him back.”

The club have discussed several succession plans for Radradra throughout the year, which includes promoting from within the squad.

The Eels have a host of talented youngsters who graduate from the NYC this year like Greg Leleisiuao, while the likes of Intrust Super Premiership players George Jennings and Nathan Davis are also options.

The vision for 2018’s left edge will become clearer in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, the priority position for the club to fill ahead of next season is a forward.

While Roosters prop Kane Evans joins their squad next year, the Eels are actively pursuing another middle.

Managers have been given a description for the type of player the club is chasing and they must have similar physical traits to that of Evans.

The Eels have plenty of low set, wrecking ball style middles with Tim Mannah, Daniel Alvaro, Suaia Matagi and Siosaia Vave on contract.

With the exception of Radradra’s exit and the addition of Evans, the club’s roster will hardly change.

They will also welcome back Bevan French and Clint Gutherson from injury in a boost for the club as they continue to develop their existing combinations.

“We can legitimately build on next year,” utility Will Smith said.

“The only person we’re missing is Semi and we get another forward in Kane Evans who’ll be a big help to our pack.

“With the team sticking around, especially with where they’ve come to now from last year, it’s going to be good.”

As usual the headline promises one thing and the body of the article fails to deliver.
