Soosemea hat trick and drop goal by Harris-Tavita gets them across the line over Wyong.

Thrilling to watch, and warmed up the big Warriors supporters bay.

I thought they'd blown the chance of a field-goal in their previous set, but no, just like the first grade, they often got the ball back at important times.

A personal hoodoo broken today. I've finally seen our reserve grade win!

What an absolute rubbish effort in today's game. No discipline, poor defence...really unimpressed with Lino and Cherrington...worse thing about this is that Bulldogs side are extremely poor.

After that Bulldogs game I walked away saying Lino should and will never play first grade again....wow talk about egg on my face....

Great stuff from him after watching him from U20's to now I honestly thought he would be incapable of performing in the NRL.

Harris-Tavita field goal secures win in dramatic clash
A last-minute Chanel Harris-Tavita field goal has proved to be the difference between the Warriors and the Wyong Roos in an absolute thriller at Allianz Stadium.

Lewis Soosemea put on a try-scoring clinic as he scored his second hat-trick this month, and was heavily assisted by his fleet-footed centre Cole Waaka.

The Roos started the match in good field position when Luke Sharpe was taken out illegally and awarded a penalty. A beautiful grubber by Mitch Cornish on last tackle sat up perfectly for Paul Momirovski, who timed his chase to perfection to post first points for Wyong.

The Warriors’ first chance in decent position was butchered when a kick for touch failed to find the sideline, but when a Cornish grubber found the dead ball line they used the seven-tackle set to their advantage. A right-to-left shift saw Soosemea with the ball in his hands, and some individual brilliance saw him skip through the defence and break multiple tackles to score a brilliant try.

A Cornish chip kick intended for Sharpe looked to have been executed with perfection until the live-wire fullback was once again illegally taken out by a Warriors defender, and the Roos took the penalty goal to nudge out to an 8-6 lead.

The Warriors responded with a penalty goal of their own shortly after, and then were gifted a try-scoring opportunity after a Wyong error in their own half. They built pressure and eventually scored through Soosemea after some brilliance by Waaka, where he skipped around the defence and threw a beautiful pass to his winger.

That footwork by Waaka showed no signs of slowing up during the half-time break, as he picked up a ball on the half volley before putting on a Shaun Johnson-like left foot step to fool the defence, before weaving his way through another two players and reaching out for a try.

While that try was all class and finesse, the next try to Wyong was brute force. Nat Butcher was a man on a mission, and when he got the ball in his hands, he used his big frame to bust his way through and score a powerful try under the posts to reduce the deficit to 18-14.

Wyong then rolled up-field and did it all again to once again take the lead, which is becoming a recurrent theme for them to start the year. A mid-field bomb was put up and Matt Ikuvalu plucked it out of the air to score on almost the exact same blade of grass that Butcher scored on earlier.

An error to the Roos gave the Warriors another sniff, and that’s all Soosemea needs after Chanel Harris-Tavita threw him a bullet right-to-left pass that changed the lead once again.

Soosemea made a long-range dash to put the Warriors in range once again, and were only denied points when Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad was pulled up for a double movement.

Manaia Cherrington was penalised directly in front of the posts for a high tackle on Mitch Williams, and as the Roos were down by two points, they decided to lock the scores up at 22-all with just under five minutes remaining.

After kicking it out on the full, Wyong responded by not allowed the Warriors to take a field goal for an entire set despite being in good field position through relentless defensive pressure.

They knocked it on next set though, and they were unable to stop Harris-Tavita slot the match-winning field goal.

Warriors 23 (L Soosemea 3, C Waaka tries; C Harris-Tavita 3 goals; C Harris-Tavita field goal) def Wyong Roos 22 (P Momirovski, N Butcher, M Ikuvalu tries; J Mantellato 5 goals)

Bad day at the office today

Boys went down 32-0. Lots of handling errors and dropped ball. Nothing stuck. I think that with 3 trips to Aussie in a row it caught up with them

ISP and Jersey Flegg teams named for Old Boys' Day

Second rower Isaiah Papali’i has been included in the Vodafone Warriors’ squad for Saturday’s sixth-round Intrust Super Premiership clash against the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles at Mount Smart Stadium (2.45pm kick-off).

Papali’i is set to return after recovering a knee injury suffered in the club’s second-round NRL match against Gold Coast on March 17.

He has also been named on the NRL squad’s extended bench for Saturday’s Old Boys’ Day encounter with Brisbane.

Also coming into the ISP line-up is middle forward Ligi Sao, who was used in the opening four NRL wins this season but didn’t play last week.

The Vodafone Warriors have a 2-3 record after last week’s disappointing 0-32 loss to Western Suburbs. The Sea Eagles are just ahead of them with two wins, a draw and two losses.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Junior Warriors are coming off their first win of the season after accounting for Wests Tigers 26-10 last Saturday.

They take on the winless Manly side, which fell to a 14-22 loss to Wentworthville last weekend.

Returning for the Vodafone Junior Warriors is prop Soane Hufanga.

Better performance than last week so far. Look to have more energy. Leading the Sea Eagles 10 - 4 at half time. Tof Sipley looks a bit leaner this year but maybe still quite slow? Doesn't seem like he'd fit in well with our new high energy style of play in first grade. Would have been interesting to see what Corvo could have done with him though.

Corvo or no Corvo I'm sure Tof would be getting first class treatment at Manly. If he doesn't make it there then he probably won't anywhere.

Nice bit of brotherly love in a scrum at the start of the second half. Pat and Tof pushing each other in the face and Tof getting a handful of Pats hair. All looked fairly good natured though.

It might've reminded their dad of when they were young'uns in the backyard. He might've even gone to Auckland for it, just for old times sake.

INTRUST SUPER PREMIERSHIP

Tuivasa-Sheck and Lawton to start for ISP side

The Vodafone Warriors will be without leading try-scorer Lewis Soosemea when they face the St George Illawarra Dragons in Saturday’s seventh-round Intrust Super Premiership match at Mount Smart Stadium (3.00pm kick-off).

Soosemea, who leads all scorers with seven, is suspended resulting in Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck coming into the line-up.

Also into the run-on side is new signing Karl Lawton, who starts at hooker after being on the bench last week.

The Vodafone Warriors lie seventh after their 34-4 win against the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles last week but are just two points off the lead, the Dragons being one of four teams sharing top spot on eight points.
