NRL Rd 13 2018 - General Non-Warriors Thread

So here we are, officially halfway into the season.

Now, on cue, it's time for Origin to take the spotlight away from what is shaping up to be the most fascinating NRL season in years.

Still, an interesting game tonight to kick-off the round, Manly v Cowboys. The former are still in the hunt for a finals spot, the latter are gone (surely - when do you make a certain call here? I'm not brave enough, again).

Both sides are pretty much equally affected by Origin. It's the first cold snap in NSW tonight, so that favours the hosts. It'll be interesting to see what crowd numbers rock up to Brookie on a chilly Thursday night, with Origin all over the media?

Tomorrow's Rabbs v Sharks should be the game of the round, again despite Origin. Its seems odd that the Blues are in training but the Sharks still have Dugan, Moylan, Fifita, Graham and Gallen to call upon. It shows NSW is heading in a new direction, team-wise.

I'm keen to see how the Burgess brothers go against a bigger pack, after they waltzed through the Warriors middle last weekend.

Eels v Knights. A bit sad that. Two sides well off the pace this year, it must be so disappointing to their loyal fans, and those two sides really do have great fans. They'll both be back soon, let's hope. Rugby League needs a strong Parramatta and Newcastle. In many ways those two areas are traditional heartland for the game.

Chooks v Tigers, seven v eight, with the Broncos on the same points but with a much poorer for and against. Still, if either side loses, they drop out of the eight. That's always something to play for. Cronk turning out for his club during Origin? That also means a big change for the Maroons.

Eight teams guaranteed two competition points this round without even playing. Why?

Not confident at all tonight, even though our pack should absolutely bury them and do enough to set the game up for DCE and Hodkinson. The Trbo brothers and Walker are a big hit to the attack though

Tof didn't get much ball when he did he had some barging runs. Have Manly realised he's deadly close to the line?

Manly look pretty bad though, lacking fire.

He ran well when he took his chances, was impressed by him

We can't take a trick with forwards this season, Gosiewski back from the broken hand last night and looked like he broke his arm, and that impact was terrible for Lane so guessing he might be out next week which is a shame because he is in terrific form. If we could get everyone fit Taupau, Fonua-Blake, Perrett, Tanginoa, Paseka and Sipley is a decent front row rotation and a back row of Sironen, Thompson, Trbojevic, Lane and Winterstein isn't terrible either, but we just can't keep guys on the paddock

One of those games last night and I knew it was going that way as soon as they scored that try off the rebound. The way we are going be might even do the unthinkable and lose to the Warriors

For one of the biggest guys on the field I was impressed how quickly Sipley got back into the defensive line after a tackle. He was always like that in reserve grade too. He has a great attitude.

Also, I thought the Cows had their first player of 'Mexican' background last night.

The commentator (Hadley) said 'Chuala'. It was Tuala!

Not if you can get a reasonable proportion of that middle on the park, there's a formula...

'Canberra's problem over the years is that they've had too many big men on the park who can't move laterally...the game's changed...with decreased interchanges, and little men like Souths' Damien Cook exploiting tired forwards around the ruck, it's left them vulnerable'.

ABC Radio Granstand.

Yet us at the Warriors are convinced our pack's too small.

Cleary Snr on ABC said his son was so humble about being named in Origin that he had to 'crowbar' the info out of him (when he'd heard about being named).

Also Snr said he 'didn't enjoy how good he was when he came back from injury and led his side, to beat my side, a few weeks ago'.

Snr was non-plussed when asked about tomorrow's game v Roosters, and the prospect of either side dropping out of the eight (if they lose).

"Every game is important".

Ive also said he'd have 'taken' being where the Tigers are right now (seventh) at the start of the season. He mentioned the 'experts' predicting Warriors 15th and Tigers last at season's end.

Gus calling Tupou 'toopoo'. For crying out loud, he'd know better, wouldn't he?

Also, we rage at the Warriors but fans of both the Tigers and Roosters would be screaming blue murder at their sides. Kick-offs going out over the dead-ball line, knock-ons from goal-line drop-outs, passing to your winger when it's obvious he's going to be run over the sideline, penalties given away on the stroke of half-time...

It's dumb, real dumb.

Roosters got the fun of the green there in the final 10mins.
Saw at least 3 infringements they have called penalties this year.
Also not square markers let them down the other end when Fergo knock on had nothing to do with it.

Final 40 secs, Roosters just need to play out a set then get to Cronk for a kick, so what does SST do? Yep, loose carry on his 30m line and on 3rd tackle.

If it was Lisone...
