Inaugural Polynesian Club Championship

The inaugural Polynesian Club Championship was held on June 2nd in Apia, Samoa.

Tongan champions Mu'a Saints played Samoan champs Apia Barracudas with Saints winning 36-30.

The 2018 Tongan National Rugby League Jason Taumalolo Cup champions, the Mu’a Saints, have departed Tonga to take on the best of the Samoan Rugby League domestic competition in the inaugural Polynesian Club Championship.

The match, which will also be part of the Samoa 56th Celebration of Independence, will take place on Saturday June 2nd in Apia.

Mu’a Saints qualified for the Polynesian Club Championship after defeating the Ha’ateiho Spartans 24 – 23 in the Jason Taumalolo Cup Grand Final two weeks ago.

The Mu’a Saints have continued their impressive 2018 season by adding another piece of silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet after winning the inaugural Polynesian Club Challenge on the weekend.

The current 2018 Jason Taumalolo Cup Champions were picked to represent the Tonga National Rugby League at the inaugural Polynesian Club Challenge in Apia last weekend with the event tied into the Samoa Independence Day celebrations.

Taking on the Apia Barracudas, the Saints were pushed all the way in a tight battle before claiming the honours up 36 – 30 at full time.

The Polynesian Club Challenge is set to become an annual fixture, just like the Melanesian Club Challenge, designed to support the continued development of club Rugby League throughout the pacific.

Wouldn't be competitive at the moment
PNG & Fiji club RL is quite strong. I'd like for the Cook Is champs to be involved somehow

Cook Islands should be involved also as they have a very good competition their teams could compete with teams from Tonga and Samoa.

But as usual they need money, if only the NRL could throw some money for these tournaments, I know it should be the IRLF but they have limited resources thinly spread.

If the AFL can throw money at their "international" game with little return surely the NRL could.
