"Whilst this situation is far from ideal, we appreciate that the New Zealand staff have been working through these complications to the best of their ability," the RLPA's general manager of stakeholder relations Clint Newton said.

"What this does highlight are the challenges and risks that were associated with the location of this Test and its scheduling during the mid-season representative round.

"There are going to be a number of areas that will be reviewed from the Denver Test, including the challenges faced regarding return flights for New Zealand players.

"Many of the experiences in Denver were positive for the players involved and for the growth of the sport internationally. We will continue to seek feedback on the overall experience from both England and New Zealand NRL players, while also monitoring their transition back into the competition.

"I’m sure this review will assist in the planning of future representative matches, particularly during the mid-season representative weekend."

Tapau is still stuck in Denver apparently. An electrical storm cancelled the first flight then a mechanical issue has left him the last man stranded after they were put on different flights.
Jesus! Bozo's not going to be happy. Is he ever?

Don’t have Thursday games after an international break. Common f**king sense really.
The NRL could easily have swapped byes around or played a Monday game.

The test was announced in Feb. The draw was done in Nov

Hopefully next year the Thurs and Friday following is NRL free and it stops some of the whinging

Can't do any of that without Nines permission, they'd be in breach of their contract if they did, and it's highly unlikely that Nine will give the go ahead for such a thing.

The break was announced way before that, it’s hardly surprising that a league with foreigners in it might have players traveling a fair distance.

What 9 would prefer teams at half strength on a Thursday than full teams on a Monday?
Seems unlikely.

Wasn't NZ going to be playing Tonga in Auckland originally? in that senario worst case players are back on the Monday and no Jetlag. I think this was a learning experience as long as the IRLF stays strong the NRL will be forced to adapt.

And the English players?

We know how many people attended the game, but does anyone know the viewing numbers in the US and Canada?

It's very likely, cause they couldn't give a rats arse about the strength of the teams only about the ratings, advertising cash, profits, etc... Nine is in it for the money, not for any love of the game...

Full teams sounds like a ratings draw to me.

Raiders vs Warriors with full teams will never out rate a depleted Broncos vs depleted Bulldogs on Nine, and it's got nothing to do with the players or the quality of the games, the Broncos and Bulldogs simply have larger fan bases to draw on to draw ratings, and that doesn't change cause a couple of players are out injured or whatever for a week...

Look at it from Nines point of view, Thursday is a better draw then Monday, they have a contract to broadcast a game on Thursdays for x amount of money, now the NRL wants to go back on that contract halfway through it for one match a year and want Nine to play this one game on a Monday, Nine're going to lose ratings and thus the value of advertising during that program if they agree. So what would you do if you were in Nines shoes in that situation? Well if you have even half a brain you'd make the NRL bleed dearly to get the game moved or you'd say no and make them play on the Thursday anyway.

So unless the NRL is willing to be further screwed over for two other independent parties to hold a game using their players, without any compensation mind you, it's simply not going to happen cause it wouldn't be in Nines interest for it to happen and they hold all the cards in this case.

The NRL own the players? Is that a thing?

They are apposed to it no doubt, so what can you do when a contract is signed? Whinge and whine, or get behind it, learn and plan better for the future?

Where's the logic?

I have no issue with them whinging. Their priority is for the NRL not internationals.

It is up to those involved to stick to their guns and force the NRL to come along

may have been raised in an earlier post but surely given the number of people flying to the game, a private flight could have been chartered?
