Former Panthers in the NRL

Griffin himself admitted it on his NRL 360 tell all. I get you adore him but there is no denying this one is fact.

Griffin said he regretted the way he handled it, doesn’t make the other party blameless or innocent, nor that he was the sole reason Moylan left. He fell out with a lot of people both within the squad & in the coaching staff due to his attitude. Senior players didn’t want him playing in the final series last year, surely that says enough?

I know and accept I have bias towards Moylan but when the coach comes out on tv and admits it these kind of comments look way worse.

Yes but you don't think Gus wouldn't of spoke to other players, coaching staff etc? All hook said was they didn't get on. This is the coach Gus said he was already managing through things. No way the coach gets backed over a single player.

Griffin said he had issues with Moylan. The majority of Panther fans and players had issues with Moylan. What's the common factor here? Moylan was a self centered ass hole.

No one would take the coach over the one player. Never happens
It wasnt just one player. We have a higher player turnover rate (of contracted players) under Hook then any other club.

Hook seemed to think we were rebuilding every year. Hence never actually building toward anything under him.

When you released more than 20% of your roster early there's clearly issues beyond the players.

No hook yet players still go... Merrin, Maloney won't finish their deal.

I mean in a dispute type of thing. Players usually win unless there is more to it

They only had issue once Moylan was punted. They blindly backed the club. Moylan is not the common factor in the early releases though.

The common factor in releasing players early was Hook. He played favorites from day one. Since Hook arrived:

Jamal Idris. Elijah Taylor. James Segeyaro. Jamie Soward. Tmm. Peta Hiku. Matt Moylan. Bryce Cartwright. Leilani Latu. Mitch Rein. Tyrone Peachey. Chris Grevsmuhl. All granted early release under Hook. Thats just early releases. Include turnover of off contract players and its ridiculous.

Before he arrived we didn't even break that many contracts during our rebuild.

Those players haven't left yet... and if onlu 2 players in the next 2 years left early thats a huge turnaround ffom the Hook days.

He didn't. He was backed over dozens of players from day one.

Gus backed the coach over the player everytime. under both Cleary and Hook. If a coach had issue with the player. He was gone. Simple as that

My post was about Moylan's shit behaviour. Why do you need to change the goal post? It's also on record that Gus does recruitment, not Griffin. Many of the player's given early release were not just Griffin's decision or fault and you know it. You actively campaigned on here to get rid of several of the players that you listed and everyone on here knows that also.

You really used Grevsmuhl as an example? & Cartwright? & Idris?

Wouldn’t the common factor be Gus given he handles our salary cap?

It’s so weird the lengths people will go to defend Moylan. Regardless of the coach, the bloke was toxic within the club. He’s probably a good bloke, but he was a shithouse professional. Many many things swept under the carpet because they hoped he’d be the long term face of this club.

He is the one that overpays kids. Puts in dumb debut clauses etc

Is there honestly a single player in that list other than Peachey that you'd still want here?

No you made shit up. You said the majority of players and fans had issue with Moylan. Which isnt true. The only fans who had issue with him are those who blindly back the club and/or coach right or wrong. As for the players he still has plenty of friends here.

I never said losing some of those guys wasnt agood thing. But having a coach who has such a high player turnover rate is not. Gus does recruitment but the coach ultimately decides if he canwork with players or not. As a whole that player turnover rate is ridiculous.

Hook thinks we're rebuilding every year. Hence we never actually built toward anything in his 3 years here. He couldnt get along with a player so he was punted.

You said Moylan was a common factor... but he wasnt. Whatever flaws he may have had were not relevant to these situations. Hook not getting along with the players was.

And you ignore the fact Hook picked a captain that didnt want to be captain or have the qualities to be captain. A player that people at the club thought was a bad choice but he did so anyway. He then tore Moylan apart infront of the team whenever we played poorly. Which if you care to remember the opening 9 rounds of last year was a lot. He didnt tear down the team. He tore down the captain for bad games.

That relationship was ruined because of Hook. How many players would cop that sort of abuse without consequence?

I heard they promoted Moylan to get the lair out of him but he might not have been ready.

Lots of players get berated in front of teams as a coaching tactic to try to get the best out of them, but some players react badly. So it wasn’t a good call at all. No coach gets it 100 right except the gf winner.

The word on the street was that he had gone wild, wouldn’t knuckle down and all that.

He had to go.

But the hook sacking wreaked of desperation, terribly mismanaged and the results after that we’re a forgone conclusion. It can’t be argued that the team played better. It was pretty much same old.

Complex side to coach well.

I wouldn’t be too quick to nail Maloney. One of the best players in the game this year despite a troubled last performance. Panthers won the swap easily. Moylan is not a big game player atm.

Moylan being named captain wasn’t a form of punishment. It’s the biggest honour you can have at a club, especially being a local junior of that club. The whole notion of Hook not liking him from the start goes out the window with that one call.

If you’re a professional footballer, getting paid over $500k, getting your head constantly on TV & you get appointed captain of your local club, even if it’s not your desired role, you should have the mental capacity to deal with it or at least try to learn how to deal with it.
