This is it for me. CHN perfect example nothing special contract wise yet gone out the door

I think this more has to do with other players requiring significant upgrades. Lui, Cleary would be two off the top of my head. Sadly the club gets nothing for developing players, that really does need to change. I wouldn't be shocked to see Merrin let go either. There are junior players doing a better job on a 1/3 of the money. Merrin I think looks stale. Tamou though has bitten down and doing a great job off the bench. I think that's probably why Grant was brought back. Depth player for injuries, origin, but can do a job for minimn salary.

The Brisbanes of this world (who also develop players well) can offset players better with TPA's and the clydesdales.

A report had as at the 3rd most TPA's though.

I get Cleary needing an upgrade being a rep player and all but Luai is 4 games into his career. How bad is our cap if we can't fit him in. Imagine if he actually becomes a rep player. I dare say a few are overpaid

I think we are all not in the know. I know that Billy required a big big upgrade, Nathan, Isaah, Lui (as on almost nothing, other clubs sniffing round like dogs on heat). That is just off the top of my head. Lui is already a rep player Plays for Samoa.

The Sharks have played 19 games more than us, and used 72 fewer players.

There has been some debate on here about our high turnover of players and why we develop juniors only to move them on.

There are lot's of valid reasons why player's move on, or are moved on.

I understand we haven't had a lot of players who have reached the significant milestone of 150, 200 plus career games but by itself I don't see it as being a failure on our part as a club.

Using our current wingers as one example, if by chance, we had one or more top drawer world class wingers amongst our junior ranks then surely we would not let them leave just so we can see the likes of DWZ as or Josh Mansour achieve the milestone of 150 or more games.

Our current roster is not perfect, and despite the assertions of Erotic Gamer, it is unlikely to guarantee the premiership we all crave but four decent seasons in the last five is more than we have achieved in our history so we haven't done too badly.

It’s been a constant problem with our club, not just the Gould era.

The panthers have had 578 players since 1967, only 8 of them have played more than 200. None have played more than 250.

Only 44 of the 578 have played between 100-200 games.

Carter
Symmons
Puletua
Alexander
Izzard
Gower
Lewis
Girdler

Are the 8.

Interesting point, although it's not as bad as it looks.

Cronulla entered the comp in 1967 too and since then have had:
6 over 200
2 over 300
53 over 100

Parramatta entered in 1947, they've had:
37 over 100
12 over 200

I get your point about the constant turnover definitely but we're not as bad as you may think.

Definitely needed to keep Cleary though long-term as he could definitely play 200+ - he's already played 58.

Those 2 teams share something with Penrith >>> lack of success

The club has been poorly managed a lot and has also had to sign a lot of journeymen or older talent to get by at different time it’s not rocket science, we have been battlers for most of our existence.

Gould stated plan has been to change that and build a squad of penrith produced players, We can’t just stop losing players though, it’s always going to happen it’s part of the game. Most of current side is signed for the next few years and we have a great squad, most clubs would kill for our talent. The only hole right now is at hooker and head coach,it’s the coaching that has let us down massively. The playing squad we have is more than capable of getting it done.

Cleary commits his future to Panthers
Panthers Media

Penrith Panthers is delighted to announce Nathan Cleary has committed his future to Panthers by agreeing to a five-year contract extension.

The new deal means the 20-year-old playmaker will remain with the club until at least the end of the 2024 season.

"I'm excited to re-sign with the Panthers and commit the next six years of my career to the club," Cleary said.

"There was always going to be speculation but in the end it was an easy decision for me to make.

"This club and this community mean a lot to me. Panthers gave me the opportunity to debut as an 18-year-old and I will always hold that close to my heart.

"I've grown up with this team and I couldn't ask for a better group of players and coaches to work with moving forward.

"I want to become a leader here at the Panthers and I'm determined to help deliver a premiership to Penrith."

Cleary is a product of the Panthers development system, having been part of the club since joining the club's Halfback Academy as a 14-year-old in 2011.

He played for the club's Harold Matts team, captained the SG Ball outfit and won a premiership with the NYC side.

In 2016, aged 18, Cleary made a single appearance for the Panthers ISP team before being handed his NRL debut in Round 13.

He immediately established himself as the club's first-choice halfback and finished his debut season as the club's leading pointscorer.

"Today is a very special day in our club's history," Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould AM said.

"Everyone at Panthers is delighted to know Nathan Cleary has committed to this club until at least the end of the 2024 season.

"This is a significant contract for Nathan but it's also a major investment by Panthers in its own future as an NRL club, and it's an important signing for the future of rugby league in Western Sydney.

"Nathan is an outstanding young man and I have no doubt he will be a future captain of this club.

"His best football is still well in front of him and we believe he will be the face of rugby league in this region for many years to come.

"To sign a deal of this significance with a player we have seen develop through our own pathways system, from a young age, is a special moment indeed."

In 2017 Cleary was selected in the NSW City Origin side and achieved the title of highest pointscorer in the NRL with a total of 228 points. He was the youngest player to achieve the feat since 1913 and the youngest player ever to score 200 points in a season.

He made his State of Origin debut for NSW earlier this year and played alongside Panthers teammate James Maloney as the Blues won their first series since 2014.

Cleary, who turns 21 in November, has played 58 NRL games, scored 18 tries and kicked 185 goals.
