If they are prudent business people North Sydney should be back in some form as the Central Coast Bears with strong links to North Sydney. Itsunami also not impossible to have the West Tigers called the Balmain Campbelltown Tigers. Perhaps give West Magpies a lifeline in West Australia with having links to the Lidcombe (or wherever club). Just some options. I'm aware they will be howled down but still not impossible if well thought out and planned smartly. The carve up of the established clubs of Sydney has been immensely damaging to this once unrivaled code in NSW and QLD. Agreeing to go to 14 teams over twenty years ago was suicidal in so many ways. A massive mistake and the code is still hurting as a result.

and here we go again, there will be NO new NSW club added to the NRL, ever. If we are lucky we will see 4 potential new or relocated teams in the next 20-30 years, and none of them will be in NSW.

I guess in theory clubs are probably more aware now that if they drop out of the NRL they are probably never getting back in. I reckon Bears and Manly thought if they dissolved the merger they would both find a way back into the NRL eventually. Knowing that you aint getting back might be enough to see a bankrupt club decide to relocate, but its hard to see any club going bankrupt with the new $13mill grant tbh.

I might have gone off a bit early, rumored Cronulla have run up a $3million loss this year despite getting the $13million grant! On top of a massive loss in 2017 and millions of $'s of current debt they better hope the property market doesn't drop out!

The Bears are dead and are never coming back. They should have been killed sooner.

Proactive discourse and valid points are not to your liking. I will state this though: " You are a consistent contradictor".I did state "Bye Bye" ,however the World 9s anouncement was worth commenting on, especially the inadequate tv coverage which should include simulcast coverage.

Your apparent wealth has distanced you from the reality of the Australian sports fan market . Sure you think $160 tickets are fine for a final but rugby league has mostly a very much working class , lower socio economic to middle class following. These people do count their dollars and have had a poor serving of international rugby league over a few decades. Price and marketing go hand in hand to enticing such fans. They haven't the income you have and that's the way it is in Australia. It matters when making a decision to attend a sport or not. You may call Aussies cheapskates but that's reality in OZ.

Exactly only enough money to cover 14 clubs after all the damage caused by the super league. So when the game came together all SL clubs were in and all ARL clubs had to fit the other positions, other then Newcastle, Parramatta and of course Politis's Roosters.
Given the current TV deals, governance of clubs, other revenue streams clubs look for these days there is no reason why clubs like Norths, Balmain could not be as strong as Souths, who were a basketcase for years, are today. Their history is a massive asset.

Well that's just blatantly rewriting history to an egregious extent...

There're is two big reasons (among many) why Norths and Balmain couldn't be as strong as Souths currently are (and Souths current success isn't sustainable long term anyway...), because Balmain are flat broke (if they were solely responsible for a club it would have folded a few years ago now), and because their presence in the competition would put further pressure on an already over saturated market which would further destabilise all the Sydney clubs making it even harder to sustain a club within the market as they all fight over the limited resources, which would create a sharper divide between the haves and have nots over time. Something about Balmains' recent business dealings tell me that they aren't coming out on top in that struggle to become a have, and the Bears being based on the CC and effectively starting from scratch in building a new fan-base would spread themselves to thin (trying to appeal to everybody and succeeding only in appealing to nobody) making them a smaller and less attractive club for sponsors and the such to back.

Any talk of more teams in Sydney (or really NSW ATM) is madness and would only lead to further dividing the fan-base and resources in Sydney over future generations, e.g. at best all you'd get is 11 smaller Sydney clubs struggling to make ends meet instead of 9 slightly bigger ones, at worse you'd get clubs folding due to the added competition pushing them out of the market. However if the comp was restructured though, say the lower tiers where better supported by the NRL and where helped to get wider exposure and coverage, thus reducing the price of entry to creating a sustainable club and to maintain competitiveness, then all bets are off cause then the Balmain, the Bears, or whoever really wouldn't need to be turning over as much as the top NRL clubs to be sustainable businesses, but that is a whole other scenario.

I remember reading a interview with Arko and he said back in the early 1980s the plan for the future was to have 4 Sydney clubs, 4 NSW clubs, expansion in Brisbane/Queensland and also New Zealand.

Let me guess, Manly would be one of the 4 remaining clubs. Nice one Arko.

Lol. Your total ignorance of established supporter bases and population mathematics is baffling! Do a population count and work out what "established" supporter bases mean to a sport! This oversaturation comment is lunacy! You seem to think that the Bears would need to build a new fanbase in the Central Coast and at the same time completely ignore the existing fanbase that is still in place around Australia and in northern Sydney? The fanbases for Balmain and West Magpies are still about as well! Ignoring the recognition and public familiarity aspect and asset of such established clubs has been the major mistake from the so called strategists that allowed this flawed "superleague " agreement to occur. Established clubs with established and well known fan bases are massive assets to rugby league. Only fools cannot recognise this strength and you are consistently showing that foolishness is abound for some in this website.
