Well the second nrl team into Melbourne location is decided now ?

Maybe, there's a few issues;

-They'll initially be playing out of Kardina Park in Geelong.
-They plan to self-fund a 15,000 seat stadium.
-If successful, that stadium would be exclusively for the use of soccer.

This whole process has been classic Gallop from the beginning. If you wanted these two clubs to be grassroots community organisations that would be good for soccer, it was obvious that they should be Wollongong and Canberra.

He goes, nah, lets just split existing fan bases instead and not open new markets.

Maybe not above Central

But where the pool is at Prince Alfred Park or replace Paddys Market area to Central

The whole point of doing it above central is that it’s essentially free land - the proposals are talking about building over the existing ground level platforms and the large area of rail lines directly to the south. It’s practically feasible as there is no need for any of that stuff to actually be on the surface. Central station itself (the main building) wouldn’t change as it’s a listed landmark.
There would be zero chance of it being built where the pool is or the markets are, there would be massive opposition to losing either.

Exclusively for soccer, is that official

If reports are true that a south-west Sydney team are entering the A League then the new "greater western Sydney stadium" should be built near the airport as I have previously mentioned in this thread.

The stadium can be shared by the Tigers, Panthers and the new A League team. A 25k modern all seat stadium would be perfect.

Take advantage of the new road and rail upgrades that are happening in the area.
the new sydney soccer team will be good for the stadium in Campbo. Watching the presser now, sounds like the mayor wants to spend some money on the whole precinct.

I wonder if this will still happen to Campbeltown Stadium now that they have been given the green light? It says state government will be involved which could be doubtful given the current uproar over stadium funding.

Soccer clubs wants to operate like many clubs do in Europe where grounds are owned by the clubs. We continue to see proposals along these lines popping from Loftus, Geelong to Tuggerah

This talk of the Panthers moving home grounds to a shared stadium with the Tigers absolutely will not happen.

Panthers itself gains a shit load of revenue on game days and they aren't about to give that up to play 25 minutes down the road in the middle of nowhere, next to an airport.

If the Tigers want a better stadium, and they absolutely deserve it, they need Campbelltown completely redone and will have to do it on their own or with the A League. Or, explore Liverpool with the Bulldogs.

Penrith have no need to move. Their stadium services them just fine. If they need to increase capacity, they should go along the Newcastle route.

I could easily see them playing out of Kardina Park long term when they don’t get their own stadium off the ground.

I’m actually curious to see how that works out. They’ve been playing more and more top level cricket there of a summer, two BIg Bash League games this summer and the Australian team has played full internationals there too.

If the BBL expands - which it is almost certain to in the next few years - Geelong is in the box seat for a team.

Any potential 2nd Melbourne NRL team (no matter how unlikely that is) would be mad not to play at AAMI Park.

Even if things changed and an "out of city" north/west/east club started up 15k is too small.

They are about to build a concert venue in Brisbane over Roma Street station doing exactly that. It also really changes the dynamics of a place like that, as more entertainment opens up in that area to cater to those crowds.

Unfortunately they don't look like they are going to go down this path in Sydney. Too many vested interests in keeping it at Moore Park.

It would be a good ground for a once a year hit out to help expand the fanbase. I think the Storm should have a couple in regional VIC each year.

Brisbane is league heartland and doesn't even have a second team. I can't see Melbourne ever getting one.
Forever is an awfully long time. Who knows what the sporting landscape looks like in 70 years? 150 years? 500 years? Even in 40 years a lot can happen. 40 years ago there were no teams from outside Sydney in what became the NRL and only Geelong from outside Melbourne in what became the AFL. The idea that teams from the “foreign” side of the Murray could be competitive and even dominant in their respective leagues was laughable. A 2nd Melbourne team in the NRL is nowhere near the fantasy that today’s national comps were in 1978.

Leigh.

Good point. Competent (key word) admin with vision (another key word), could achieve Brisbane 2, Perth, Adelaide and NZ 2 within a decade. Once that is in place (along with some sort of Sydney solution), Melbourne 2 would be the next obvious club in say, 20 years from now.

All of that would rely on those two key words though...

The club needs more corporate facilities at the stadium to utilise. The ones that are currently available are sold out every game. They can make a lot more money from corporates in a new stadium.

I just don't see Penrith Stadium getting a significant upgrade with the Panthers being the only tenant. You want the stadium to have at least 20 events a year.

Daz one idea I pondered the other day was making Penrith the HQ for the Matilda’s. They seem to get good crowds at Penrith and we could utilise them for an upgrade. Perhaps also the WSW women’s team.
