I’m sure it being the first game at a brand new stadium plays a big part in it selling out.

Definitely.

The ODI Cricket game at Perth Stadium sold out last year and then only attracted 24k for the next ODI in November.

Can't wait to visit Bankwest Stadium in June, all the pictures look great.

The Opening game at WSS, being the Easter Monday game, will draw a lot more attention & Viewers. Then being a normal round game or against an outer state team. The hype around it will be huge.

What a surprise the 1st game at the most anticipated new stadium in Australia is going to sell out!! Not.
The 2nd game will as well, as it's against the Dragons. Lot's of eager fans willing to check out the new place.
I wouldn't even be surprised if the 3rd game sells out.

And, to Beetroot Cheeks, the Tigers game is 2 months away, not 3. Get your facts right you stupid old merkin. You're supposed to be a journalist. Do some f**king simple fact checking. Do News Limited not supply you with a calendar and an NRL fixture list?

Totally. And I think others in this thread are over stating the crowd Eels v Tigers would drag at ANZ these days. I doubt it was over 30k this past season.

Good news if true about the A-League team. Hopefully as TBoon has suggested, the NRL can grant a license to Canberra to play in the NRLW comp as it may tip the issue in favour of the rectangular sports.

Although, it is rediculous and highlights your point about Barr that an NRL, NRLW, SuperRugby and A-League team are needed to counter half an AFL team.

I wish that the ARU, ARLC and FFA would get together and form a coordinated stadia alliance / committee to push the case to Governments around the country for rectangular stadia and counter the AFL political corruption. The committee can have a representative from each body and entice rectangular stadia to be built / upgraded using the Wallabies, Socceroos, Kangaroos, NRL Grand Final, SOO, NRL matches, SR matches and potential NRL / SR / A-League expansion as a collective carrot.

If a politician like Barr shows open favouritism like he is to AFL, then these sports need to collectively avoid Canberra for any event games or expansion consideration until there is a suitable upgrade.

Yes, it sounds a little childish but so does AFL revoking media accreditation when comments are unfavourable. If we want to compete, then we've got to compete.
This doesn't sound childish. It sounds sensible. The AFL are powerful and are capable of strong arming governments into making decisions that favour them. The NRL, ARU and FA all share interests when it comes to facilities Presenting as a united front with considerable clout is sensible Too sensible for these bunch of amateurs.

If Parra sell out their first game, that's great news. Hopefully they can do it for the next few after that, then some.

The entire point of the 'boutique' stadium is that it near capacity the whole time - right? Let there be such demand that you need to buy a ticket early (or become a Member) and make each game an event.

Ten bajillion times better than playing at ANZ.

2018 - 30420
2017 - 28249
2016 - 36112
2015 - 35510
2014 - 50668.

You were saying?

Thanks. So this game would have got 30k at ANZ but it would have looked ordinary there.
I guess if the stadium could have been available earlier then it would have been good to get an otherwise low drawing game there for opening night, but you cant help the building schedule much.

Yeah get Easter show traffic going into the game at ANZ other factors that might push the crowd out. What both sides are undefeated going into that game?

Sellouts this early so far out with a bigger ground nearby is a waste imo

Not if you want to build the crowd ave up. Public holiday rounds are perfect time to use ANZ as an event

Maybe they should shift another game there for the day.

The stupid thing is we still play Thurs night game that week. Sunday night could be used. Could do stuff like retro round and GA is 80's prices. Stuff like that is how RL wastes public holidays.

The new stadium is perfect for the Thurs/Fri night games. Hopefully ANZ once renovated and WSS can interchange. If ticket sales are poor ANZ game is moved and vice versa
