Absolutely. Either the cap is simply not working as intended, or someone is cheating it.

Roosters lose Blake Ferguson, gain Ryan Hall, Brett Morris and Angus Creighton....all seems legit :)

Yeah, just ignore we released Dylan Napa. We released Ryan Matterson too who was a handy squad player.

I regard the disproportionate distribution of talent across the 16 clubs as a big of an issue at the moment as off field behaviour.

Mate plenty of sports that have salary caps and drafts yet you see a number of teams who are perennial cellar dwellars despite it (e.g. Look at the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and the NBA with the LA Clippers). Those two teams were jokes for years for despite getting good draft picks and having salary cap space. Why? Simple, they drafted the wrong players and wasted money on poor free agent signings. It was only once both organisations got their front offices sorted out that they started turning that around.

Jack Gibson said it best a long time ago "winning starts in the front office". I mean is it any wonder teams like Parramatta did so well in 1981-1986 as they had their front office sorted out. Look at 'em now.

Clippers and Browns have turned it around?

Anyway, the ESL and NRL seem to be quite differently focused. ESL seems fairly attack oriented with quick play the balls and attacking football. NRL is too lenient on stalling tactics. Surely there's some middle ground there. I just hate seeing Jake Friend deliberately slowing down every single tackle he is involved in. At one point it looked like Radley pretended to have his hand caught in between the attackers arm. This is not a chip at the Roosters because every single NRL side does the same thing.

The ref had a very good game. Most refs (NRL refs especially) would feel the need to even up the calls especially if there are hardly any calls going his countries way but nah he was completely neutral and fair throughout.

Compared to where they were about 3 years ago, yes. Browns only just missed the playoffs with 7 wins, 8 losses and a tie (which was 9th best in the AFC). The Clippers are currently in 8th spot in the Western Conference.

Radley was genuinely caught up there. If he forcably removes his arm the ball comes out and it is a penalty. Play on was only fair call.

It's too easy an area for players to exploit - holding the ball or the arm carrying the ball is a penalty, or at least used to be. It's like Cam Smith managing to get himself entangled every second tackle he makes. Clear the ruck or get penalised. In the past it was always the responsibility of the tackler to get out of the ruck, by any means, and as quick as possible. Changing this interpretation isn't to the betterment of the game.

How can you clear the ruck when the opposition player is squeezing your hand into their arm pit? Go look at the footage again mate as that is what was happening. The Wigan player was playing for the penalty.

C'mon it's a commonly used tactic to slow the play the ball down. Hand on the ball or ball carrying arm, cranking the neck, preventing the attacker from rising to their feet - these are all tactics to slow down the play the ball. By allowing the defender to determine the speed of the play the ball - by employing the tactics I have mentioned - you are essentially penalising (for want of a better word) the attacking player. Just to be clear this is a systemic issue across the NRL, not highlighting an exclusively Roosters tactic. But to answer your question his hand wouldnt get caught up if he wasnt attempting to slow down the play.

You are ignoring the point. He was told by the referee to clear the ruck, he could not as the ball carrier wold not release his arm. No person would blow a penalty against Radley in such a situation as he was in yesterday. Had the ball carrier not insisted in trapping Radley's arm trapped, he would have cleared the ruck straight away. The ball carrier was playing for the penalty, and everybody could see it, the fans at the ground, the referee, hell even the UK commentators saw it and didn't say it should be a penalty.

You are talking generalities, which is not what I and other are talking about on this point.

I'm not ignoring anything and I think this is an agree to disagree situation. But there is a fundamental flaw in your argument. If Radley doesn't have his hand on the ball to slow down the ruck he doesn't get his arm caught. Rugby league has always penalised the first indiscretion, except in extreme circumstances.
