Cameron Smith’s stunning call for NRL to return Melbourne’s stripped titles

That’s how I read it.

Just find it amusing hat you would bother with illegal TPA’s when you still have room in the cap. Between that and doing so badly in the year that they were using PED’s, it means the club is pretty crap at cheating.

They should leave it to the experts. (Insert rich clubs names here).
Absolutely, useless flogs! Lol

Cameron Smith has sensationally called for the NRL to consider handing back Melbourne the two titles they had stripped for salary-cap rorts after cheating rivals Cronulla escaped a premiership sanction.
Be thankful you got to keep your ill-gotten premiership rings.

Has an amount the Sharts cheated by been stated? I haven’t seen or heard it, but as far as how serious it was, Cameron isn’t wrong.

Cronulla cheated as far back as 2013, so 5 years. It was systematic like the Storm. They set up a private company to cover up bogus 3rd party payments ffs.

How they got away with only a $350,000/year for 2 years fine is a joke. Barry Russell could have been hired just to be a scapegoat.

$700K is the reported amount in total over the number of years through irregular 3rd Party payments (some not even made). For 2016, the third party amounts added to the salary cap still meant the club was below the salary cap.

There is no evidence of an external private company being set up until 2017 - NOT the entire time.

This is comparing to the Storm salary cap breaches totalling $3.78M over the 5 years. Funnily enough they were not fined that amount.

Can that be fixed retrospectively?

Do people realise the only thing that made the TPAs illegal for the sharks was that the club went out hunting for them with it all recorded as TPAs?

Big difference between that and paying players secretly with fake contracts.

Smith is being shifty again as needs to correct his stance. Two wrongs do not make a right, and if anything Smith should have been calling for the Sharks to be stripped, if the penalty fits the crime. So Smith should stop with the pulling of wool over everyone's eyes and call it how it should be and not what benefits his club's cheating.
