The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Parra/Western Sydney has 2 missing ingredients to becoming a legit city in its own right.

1 - as you've mentioned, a central transport hub with proper connections to all major corners of Sydney. A direct, no-transfers connection to mascot airport, east, and the new airport and south-west are crucial.
Perhaps a metro link to the new north-west line to provide shorter trips to north-west Sydney and Chatswood too.

2 - cultural and tourist attractions. There's bugger all reason for anyone to visit aside from family and work. It's a pleasant enough place to live and bursting with culture for those who go looking, but on the surface there's not much reason for anyone to stop between Newtown and Katoomba.
There's the footy, Wet n Wild, and a new Zoo opening up.
But Parramatta and the surrounding suburbs lack anything resembling a landmark, there aren't museums or galleries of national significance (moving the Powerhouse is not a good solution), and there's little to draw visitors away from the beaches and bars of the east.

The supposed plans for a Wonderland-revival theme park hopefully come through, would give the west a major point of difference from the Sydney's inner city and could rival the Gold Coast for family attractions.

How about an Olympics and Sports museum in Parramatta or Olympic Park?
An expanded theatre, music, and art district near the Parra Riverside?
A Western Sydney history museum, a Museum of Immigration and Multiculturalism?

Powerhouse is moving there.

Plus it will eventually have a direct link to the new Nancy Bird Airport.

I have no doubt they're planning it and may even deliver it. Whether it delivers the timeframes you refer to is another matter.

It should easily deliver those travel times.

In fact they’re aiming for Martin Place to Parramatta in 20 mins, even if it’s out by 5 mins that’s still quick. Martin Place to Olympic Park will be 10 mins.

The new metro trains are much faster than our double decker stock, they travel easily up to 110-120kmh. Although in practice you’ll see them go at 100km/h.

Parramatta to the CBD directly is 23km. So with 9 stops, and dwell times of 20-30 secs, 20 mins is easily attainable.

Now, this is how you build a stadium!
We can't even get the biggest rectangular stadium in the country right, yet the following stadium is just for a club side, albeit, backed by a rich benefactor. And I'm not even a Spurs fan.

That’s an impressive looking stadium inside and out. Almost as impressive is how they built it around the old stadium while it was still operational.

That West Metro really could be a game changer for sports in Sydney.

30,000 seat Bankwest and renovated ANZ with the bottom tier great viewing for club footy, and a 20 minute run on the metro to Parramatta with a stop at Olympic Park?

Imagine knocking off work in the CBD at 5 and being in your seat at OP at 5.40 or Parra at 6?

Er guys that's not exactly a huge stretch....

Could not agree more. Only time i've been to Parra was for footy or family. Would actually be a good idea to move more museums out there. Wasn't there talks to move the powerhouse out there a few years ago? Would also be a smart move to link Parra directly with Olympic park via light rail, rail or ferries, and make the whole area a kind of Aussie sports mecca. Like you said, olympic, sports, history(?) museums. Have Parramatta a hub for ANZ pre games such as pubs etc, the catch the free direct train, ferrie or light rail instead of having to change at a crowded lidcome or catch a $120 30 min cab.

Not a fan of moving the Powerhouse or other things from the city - it's a very lazy way to go about it. Should be able to raise the west up without pulling things from the east, they're both unique places with enough cultural heritage to build their own attractions upon. But conveniently it frees up prime real estate to plonk another apartment/mall complex on..

If it's a limited stops service as it's been suggested here:

https://www.sydneymetro.info/west/project-overview

Central - Bays Precinct - T1 interchange - Olympic Park - Parramatta

Then yeah, I could see it done in that time. 20 minutes from Central to Olympic Park and 30 to Parra on a limited stops metro which follows a direct route is not that far fetched at all.

Agreed.

But more to the point, why move the Powerhouse at all? Why not just open another one? At any given time 85% of the Powerhouse's collection is in storage because they've got so much stuff. Why not just open 'Powerhouse West' and give them the chance to have more stuff on display?

Or is this more about Meriton getting their hands on a block of land in Ultimo?

It won’t be going via central.

It’s Hunter St, (Pyrmont), Bays Precint, Five Dock, North Burwood, North Strathfield, Olympic Park, (Rydalmere/Camelia) Parramatta, Westmead.

Stations in brackets are likely but not official.

They’re aiming for Parramatta in 20 mins, Olympic Park should be 10-15 mins.

The City to Westmead Metro is in the deep planning stages and will certainly happen.
Talk of a 22-25 minute trip between the city and Parramatta, depending on how many stations there are. That is being decided upon now, with soil testing having been completed at most planned stations and continuing on the final few.
Trains to be 100-130 km/h.
This isn't a pipe dream, it is happening.
Timbo's time frames are certainly within reason.

The year is 2030. The NRL GF between 2nd Brisbane team vs Perth team starts at 8. You head to the CBD for some happy hour schoonies before catching a direct 15-20 min metro train to Olympic park. As you arrive, you take your seats, 5 metres behind the dead-ball line. 2nd Brisbane team wins to make the Broncos the Gold Coast Titans of Brisbane, and you catch the metro back to the CBD to get shit faced. A man can dream can't he?

**heavy queuing lines may vary**

***lock out laws may vary***

Well, that's effectively Wynyard so a CBD hub nonetheless. 2028 completion if that timeline is accurate.

It'll be interesting to see how the comp looks then.

By many it is considered about selling the land where the Powerhouse currently is. There are heaps of problems moving it, one if which is the site where they want to put it (along side the banks of the Parramatta River) is prone to flooding when it rains heavily (I know this happens as I live in the Parramatta area and go past the proposed site at least 10 times a week and see it bursting its banks all the time with heavy rain).

You do realise that there are waterproofing products available these days that can be used to combat this? Lol. You'd also be aware that there is a 176 metre tall residential tower right next door to the proposed site, surely.
Yes, the river floods - occasionally. It wouldn't be an issue unless it was of Noah's Ark proportions.

Powerhouse is great and a real tourist attraction. Be nuts to shift it out to the burbs. But this is Sydney, probably be in Penrith next.
