Matt Cecchin's performance tonight

What a joke. That last penalty was a disgrace. Storm tackles lasted around 4-6 seconds all night then out of no where a bloke is trying to get a quick play the ball and loses it and Chechen blows a penalty for not clearing the ruck.
I'm not a warriors fan but they were robbed tonight. Storm in trouble... NRL/refs to the rescue..

Both games today the referees had a massive effect on the result.

The Storm and the Roosters are the 2 best sides in the NRL no doubt but they get every 50/50 and if they’re behind or struggling the Refs go out of their way to get them back on top.

Gotta be dropped for that penalty alone, wasn’t even close to being justified, he lost the ball trying to play it quickly, a penalty is entirely inconsistent with the interpretation all season. But “Melbourne find a way...”

It was a textbook surrender tackle. Player fell to his knees long before the line. That rule was introduced entirely for the purpose of stopping that sort of quick play the ball. No one of course gets penalised for surrender tackles anymore, but they don't ever get rewarded for them with a penalty, especially when they stuff up the play the ball and drop it. Except tonight.

100% right.. there was a tackle in the first half by nelson asofa
-Solomona on Chanel tavita-Harris that was called surrender and the tackle lasted approx 8 seconds. These are the inconsistency's that are killing the game. How the same situation can be dealt with completely different within the same game is where the calls of corruption or at the very least favouritism in the NRL have merit.

Was happy to let a clusterf**k play the ball from Kamikamika almost lead to a Storm try in the first half too.

We know they go in to each game with preconceived ideas on areas they have to police based on teams, players etc. One of those is clearly who is expected to win.

For example if Burgess drops the ball, they often penalise because their idea says he's one of the best players in the world, so something must have caused him to drop it (or that's probably how it started, but now it's well we always find a penalty, so it must be correct). If Melbourne or the Roosters are losing, they blow penalties because their preconceived idea is that they should win, so the opposition must be cheating.

It's not that the refs are cheating, it's that they are coached to have a particular idea and so ref to that idea not what's actually happening. It's also why penalty counts usually turn around at half time, as their half time discussion revolves around the lopsided penalty count and needing to 'fix' it.

im pretty sure this was the first match this year the roosters won the penalty count. Maybe for the storm this applies though

I haven't noticed the Roosters getting unfounded help this or last year. Melbourne on the other hand....it is definitely undeniable. The ref got them out of jail tonight. Even most of the Melb players looked embarrassed by their win.

You would be 100% correct. Rnd 7 and our first win of the penalty count.

We've received the 2nd fewest penalties this year and copped a 10-5 pineappling against the Storm last week. That's the sort of massive leg up the Storm have now received two weeks in a row, and receive on a consistent basis at home.

We got a couple of good calls today but for the love of God let's please not misconstrue that as "the Roosters get leg ups on par with the Storm".

That'd be one of the great rewritings of history when we consistently receive the fewest penalties in the NRL...

Why yes! We're clearly the referee darlings on par with the Storm because 'Tedesco made a line break via a shepherd so let's ignore 10 years of history'.

Anyway this should be about the Storm. I can scarcely imagine how disheartened Warriors fans must be feeling after that robbery. Regarding the penalty at the end, the refs were clearly hunting for it. Clear as day.

They'd given the Storm 4 or so incredibly soft penalties in the final 20 minutes when the whistle is usually put away. Contrast that to the Roosters-Dragons game where there was only 1 penalty in the final 30 minutes - for a kick off that didn't go the 10. That's how tight games are usually refereed.

But no, not Melbourne. The Munster penalty where he was tackled hard and looked at the ref for 3-4 seconds before playing the ball was incredulous.

It was at that point you knew the refs were going to get Melbourne home.
