And the partial rationalisation of Sydney. It had to happen at some stage, it probably would have been preferable to just finish the job rather than revisit it 22 years later.

Sydney Roosters
South Sydney Rabbitohs
St George Illawarra Dragons
Cronulla Sharks
Penrith Panthers
Parramatta Eels
Canterbury Bulldogs
Canberra Raiders
Brisbane Broncos
NQ Cowboys 1995
SQ Crushers 1995
Auckland Warriors 1995
Perth Reds 1995
Adelaide Rams 1997
Melbourne Tigers (Wests-Balmain merged and relocated) 1998
Central Coast Bears (North Sydney Bears relocated) 1998
Gold Coast Seagulls (bring back the Seagulls ) 2007
Wellington Orcas 2012

Lol. When you state finish the job: you mean finish the league! That's what would have happened but is still slowly happening due to the continued whiteanting of a proven and established competition with a widespread supporter base. But you still can't work this out!

Add a West Coast Pirates team and a second NZ team and stick with 18 clubs for the next 10 years and we'd be sweet.

I used to think a second Brisbane team, but Queensland cani keep their current clubs successful and NZ/Pacific Islands are where the biggest growth is player wise at the moment

It’s all about the $’s for nrl and Nz2 doesn’t offer much extra revenue sadly.

Thank goodness it is happening so that comp can continue to grow. No club has the devine right to play in the NRL and if they are underperforming on and (more importantly) off the field over the long-term then they obviously aren't cut-out for the NRL as a club. This applies to all clubs, not just those in Sydney.

No person has a devine right to undermine a proven and envied competition . The disrespect is astonishing!

You undermine the NSW Cup all the time by claiming that it can't be as attractive as a 3rd grade RU competition.

How dumb! You continue to not get it! Your lack of respect for the established advantages gained over many years by the Sydney NRL clubs is mind-boggling! You have much to learn. But no holding breath whether such learning will ever dawn upon your thought processes.

Every word of that was waffle and catch-phrases and doesn't relate at all to my post.

It will only take 2-3 Sydney clubs to get their sht together and start to consistently draw 20k plus crowds in the modern stadiums for the others to realize they need to drastically change or get out.

You are right. I think further to that, clubs that don't embrace the new stadia simply won't be able to compete with the ones that do in terms of the corporate dollar, sponsorship, membership and attendance revenues.

The bar is so low at the moment that there is no real pressure on clubs to perform, especially when you have a LC or rich owner bailing you out from your losses. Last year Manly avg less than 9k at Brooky and not one single mention of it. less than 7k turning out to a Bulldogs game and silence. We need some Sydney clubs to really blossom and start getting 20k plus regularly so the others wither have to catch up or move out.

I agree. Parra, Dogs, Souths, Dragons are the big players in Sydney (fan-base wise) and the Roosters from a financial point of view. Hopefully these big guns embrace WSS, new Allianz and new ANZ and raise that bar and lead the NRL into a new era in Sydney.

Spot on. Once the new stadiums are built (Bankwest, New SFS) or redeveloped (ANZ), the pressure goes on those clubs who cling to the old suburban grounds. If they want to keep to those grounds, their future may well be NSW Cup.

Yes - and it is these clubs that should be lobbying the NRL the hardest to revamp the second division so that they can cater for all of their fans: Their NRL side playing at a modern stadium and the second teir side playing at their traditional home ground in a family-friendly traditional timeslot. It is the second teir that should be appealing to the nostalgia of the 80's and 90's whilst the NRL moves into the future.

This gives the second teir an identity and the NRL will no longer have split-personality disorder.

I'll think the run down condition of Brookvale would have alot to do with Manly's lower than average crowds. What is needed on the northern beaches is a neat 20-25,000 boutique stadium.
