I predict Hunt will have a shocker tonight and he and Field will be run over the top of all night long.
Expect gaping holes in defense and the Dragons to cop a hiding.
I am not sold on Hunt and expect him to have issues with big forwards running at him out wide.
Field needs to be looked after in the middle and I have fears for him when Latimore is on especially with Leilua and or Graham as they are all suspect especially moving laterally.
I do expect to see Field ignite some attacking raids in amongst tiring Warriors forwards and if Dufty is backing up they could reap some rewards.
I hope for all the young fellows (Dufty, Field, Lomax, Host, Leilua, Ravalawa) they all get on the field at the one time and play with positivity and give themselves a chance to show what speed and energy is worth to a team.
I would like to see us chance our arm in attack and put and put an end to 5 hit ups and a kick.

Good luck to Jai. I was a fan of his speed & elusiveness but didn’t think he could cut it in the rough & tumble. He’s now got a few games to make it happen. I hope he goes well so he can provide us with another attacking option.
If Field and Dufty are not great defenders , and tries are scored against them , but they can score or setup tries then we might be ok . If we score more than them we win .....:p

I think Field will hold his own in attack. If he can show promise in defence(positioning & first effort)then he becomes the depth option we crave who can put pressure on Dufty, Lafai or even Rava. Competition for spots in the outside backs is sorely needed. With Lomax getting the nod over Aitken it shows that coach might be developing.

I am starting to think we should keep Field and Robson (if he hasn't already signed with Nth Qld. A spine of

1 Dufty
6 Field
7 Norman
9 Hunt

14 Robson

looks very good to me.

I rate McInnes highly, but with that spine we have a lot of speed, a great game manager and would be more dangerous at dummy half.

A lot of juniors signed elsewhere for this season and a few are playing first grade. If we continue with McIdiots we will see more leaving, most players want to play in a team that has a chance of winning a premiership.
Robson looks like he has gone, I don’t blame him leaving, he was never going to get a run on spot.
I suppose recruitment in 2020 will be the same as the last few years, castoffs from other teams or some who don’t get a chance to play first grade.
We haven’t seen Pearson get a run, he needs to be given a start now, not round 25.
I was impressed with Field, he has bulked up and it shows, but has not his speed.
I wish we could find a permanent spot for him.

I feel your pain but that spine won't fix the problem. The players are able to do the job however, the coach just does not have what it takes to get the best out of them for 80min whether is be game plan, player selections bench management, player respect and junior development.

McInnes is not the solution for captain. We need a clever decisive player who communicates well with the referee and his players. The captain needs to be a leader who ensures that the players stay on track for 80mins. Choosing to take shots at goal when we have the opposition on it's knees was a stupid decision.

Our much praised middle forwards, Vaughan, McInnes, Graham, Laurie, Latimore and Leilua of late are just not doing their job for the full 80mins. Having Dufty and Frizell standing on our line as markers with no other forward in the frame ended in a disaster. The roll-on up the middle by the Warriors was entirely due to the weak defence of our middle forwards.

Having a relatively in-experienced back 3 in the run on side is a game breaker and should not be the case. Recruitment should have secured the services of fast, experienced proven first grade players for those positions. Now if one winger was a very successful junior coming through that could be tolerated for a few games but to have no real alternative for all 3 players is sheer incompetence. And to have 3 halves on the books, who are all on marque salaries is ridiculous.

It is clear to me that there is a lack of discipline and no real combinations formed during the off-season. One out plays by the forwards for 4 tackles and the ad-hoc plays on the last two tackles is not a successful game plan by any measure.

There is so much more that can be done to improve performance however, I believe that it would all come to nothing until we have a new coach in charge.

It’s the Bench composition & lack of rotation in managing fatigue & form

Same 17=Same result

Is Mary too close to the players to be able to make hard decisions?? The evidence in mounting. Blake Laurie is not a first grade lock forward, he is a Prop and in truth a bench Prop. Tyson Frizzel needs to be playing lock, even if JDB comes back. In season 2019, having an extra Prop playing lock won't cut it. It seems to me that Mary McGregor is placing too much importance on his relationship with the players and he needs to be willing to make decisions for the team, even if it doesn't sit well with the ambition of any particular player

I see a pattern that is very clear and consistant and is the route of the problem with the team, this year it is selecting the back row and bench, last year it was the incomprehensible decision to select K.Mann over Field (could also have considered one or two others and accepted that Mann is not a run on player in First Grade).

Here is my reasons
When Widdop was first injured, Mary had a choice between a 5/8/halfback in Jai Field who can be a threat in attack, competent defender and a good kicking game, plus a reasonable goal kicker. The other choice was his Mr Fix it Kurt Mann. He is none of those things but ok to fill in if on bench to get through a match. He chose Kurt Mann, a very poor choice which cost us going further in the semis last year. Then he showed how sure he was that he made the right choice by releasing Kurt Mann,

Choosing the bench players, seeing that players who come into the 17 are replaced by someone who can do a similar job and his some/most/all of the same skill set. I also observe that some key positional selection decisions, appear to be made to accomodate players he wants around him. instead of picking the best option as he sees it for the team.

Another (there are others) is the selection of 2 specialist right centres. Time for Mary to make a call and of his three cetnre options, Lomax, Lafia and Aitken, pick 2 of them to start and on form and best fit criteria, not using goal kicking as major deciding factor. At present, I am not convinced by any of the 3, though I think on their day all 3 can be very good. If as it seems Lomax and Aitken and considered as being equally viable, sure let Lomax be prefered on his goal kicking, but never select him above Aitken if he is not playing as well as Aitken, because it will let the team down. Mary clearly can't see this so he puts one on the bench.

Time for Mary to caase the Wayne Bennett tactic of not using the bench players as impact weapons. There is little to no vision on how he can get the best bench impact, which is costing us in the second halves of games. It may also cost us in the back half of the season due to fatigue. Time for Mary to let Hornby make these decisions for him if he is incapabable. I would also say, we should get behind Mary for remainder of season, but his mentality of 'Keeping the boys together through thick and thin' is not working at this stage of the team development cycle. It worked when we were moving up from the poor seasons 2013-2014 and somewhat during the following 2 seasons, but now it is time to hard nosed in selecting players and in doing so, setting the standard of performance expected to make the team as successful as possible.

I sincerely believe, we have the players, regardless of injuries ect. to Win the comp. I am not talking about blind faith and hope, we actually have the players to be the best team, it's all about seizing the moment. and getting the balance between Performance and Team stability right. Also I would say that critcising players and even the coach won't contribute to a Premiership, but criticising laclustre performances does. Time ot step up Mary

This is about Jai Field right? :joy:

I thought he played well in the first half, but kinda disappeared in the 2nd. I’d watch again but it was too painful the first time.

Anyway, no problems in using him for a while while Normon is out... good experience. Maybe he can even push for a position (I like how he has developed in the last 2years)

Jai Field, is must, for our pathetic outside backs. Lomax 3,Field4
Pereira2, Ravalawa5,
Dufty1.
Lafai is hopeless.
We should give it a go.
This year is a busy for us .
Give our young lions a taste of the big show, now. Mary, do something positive, with this year.
