We need clubs to stop playing obscene amounts to average to above average players.

The likes of Ash Taylor, Cleary, Hunt, Boyd (Shannon & Darius), Milford, Foran, Reynolds, Mbye, Blair, etc are all being criminally overpaid which has skewed the player market.

You now have other merely above average players like Gutho thinking they're worth 800k+ lol

That's a good point. Plus the fact that they are paid so highly means the coach will never pick a team without them.

That's the only way they can compete against clubs that can somehow fit players like Tedesco and Coopercronk under their salary cap.

Why are Sharks fans liking this post? They're the big purchase masters lately - Barba, Ennis, Maloney, Sharon, Duges, Moylan, SJ.

I will say this about the Sharks though - they are the perfect model for other teams to follow (minus the slapstick attempt at cap cheating) in the pursuit of success.

They've got the best batch of youngsters in the game (forget Brisbane) and when they do have to fill a gap in the roster they invariably make the right recruitment call. It's about striking that balance and it's won the Sharks a Premiership with another half decade of success at least on the cards courtesy of the likes of the Brailey boys, Flanagan, Xerri, Nikora and Jack Williams coming through.

That's how you win Premierships. Not by signing the Guthos of this world to 800k deals (hold firm, Parra - don't fall into old habits).

Another good example is Manly. Every club has the cap space to have 3 million dollar players on the roster. And when those 3 players are worth every penny then you're always a chance with a good coach.

Manly's 3 big guns are the Turbos and DCE. And now they've got a good coach again they are back to being a force with a bright future once you add in the young talent developed within (Afb, Fainu) with some super smart purchases (Waddell).

And even your mob of Englishmen are getting it right. Releasing the fat overpaid slobs like Shannon Boyd and filling their roster spots with John Bateman and Ryan Sutton. George Williams may well be the final piece in a Premiership roster and it's courtesy of smart purchases.

Ricky has mastered Moneyball it seems.

That's the key to success. Not whinging and wasting your millions on heartless puss like Ash Taylor and Adam Blair.

I think we just got very very lucky for once and picked up some great places who were inexplicably let go by their clubs.
Ennis for Lichha???
If that isn’t the dumbest signing from a club I don’t what is.

Pretty similar to us with Keary. Souths got rid of him and no one else wanted him. He was no where near a rep player when signed at end of 2016 and now he can't possibly fit in the cap apparently.

It just isn't fair.

How sharks, dragons and souths fans justify whinging about other teams buying players is one of the great mysteries of the world.

You also signed Barba who was world classs at a cut price courtesy of Brisbane. And also got Maloney still in his prime on a great deal (and offloaded him at the right time too it seems). Damn smart deals. Then there's also Holmes and Bird. Great recruitment at all levels - experienced pros and great young talent.

And going back further the origins of Cronullas success can be traced to signing the likes of Wade Graham, Luke Lewis and Andrew Fifita. Fifi is your version of JWH.

And now some of these are gone and are being replaced by an incredible generation of home grown talent.

No one would ever accuse Cronulla of being the rich elite but they've ensured a decade of success courtesy of smart recruitment and identifying and developing the next generation.

That's how you build a successful footy club.

People talk about Teddy and Cooper but we just released Napa from a big contract and replaced him with Sitili Tupouniua who is on 1/3rd the money and has shown more in 2 games than Napa did in 2 years lol That's how you ensure continued success.

You know Fifita was a bonus pick up when we signed Bryce Gibbs I think.
He was almost unknown.
Gibbs was the big signing
Could’ve been heinington actually
One of them.

Back on topic, not completely yet, so many scenarios, here is just one.

You finally sack Mary and replace him with Barrett and Brown as joint coaches. and pay a million each which forces the club into debt, hey how does that sound?

Players are one thing but there is a real lack of coaching quality.

Arthur, McGregor, Kearney, Brennan, Cleary - in the normal world they wouldn’t get another job

Brown, Seibold, Green - Would be under serious scrutiny

I’ve probably missed a couple but in general plenty of teams have a coach that shouldn’t be there.

What’s worse are the boards that extend perennial underachievers - Warriors & Dragons being prime examples.
