"Play like that every week we'll make the 8"

I'll believe it when I see it. We will capitulate against bottom 8 sides and end up 9th.

I’m seeing a lot of people spreading this on forums, Facebook, Twitter etc. Play like what? Be the better team but still lose?

I don’t care that we went toe to toe with a top 4 side, we did what we always do. Get in a winning position and fail to close it out. Whether it’s against 1st or 16th it happens multiple times a season. It’s been our problem for over a decade.

At 10 games in the point is that's the point on the curve that we're at...rather that than put in for 10 minutes and a total rabble the rest of the game. .that was ladder leading melbourne at home after they ran like a swiss watch away last week...to have beaten them in a faultless game would mean we're already there which is unrealistic for now. Canberra as an example...legendary for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory under sticky but they're a seriously tough side now for the full 80. Does anyone seriously think that Melbourne's status is not mostly Bellamy? ...people can say that anyone could coach with the talent he's had but he developed that talent and built the system that brought it all together and held it together. The commentators wonder aloud how he keeps doing it after losing key players...i'll bet it's no mystery to him. Fans want instant results for their supporter investment but if you cant just "buy it" you have to build it...win...lose...learn the lessons and adjust. ...it's happening

Lifelong card carrying Glass half fuller...life's hard enough..i'm enjoying finally having a WT coach and club with ( what seems like ) a real world plan

That's true but we need results, not being the better team for 70 mins and still losing. Even with our average roster, we still should have closed out that game

Step in the right direction for sure though.

Relax y'all. This game wont feel so bad when we lose against Canterbury, Cowboys and Newcastle soon. It'll just suck because we'll probably beat Souths next week and get optimistic again.

This is probably the most accurate Wests Tigers post in the history of the forum

Geez, I wish Thompson had two brothers that were a foot taller than him...they'd be getting a run if they could play like him lol. That guy has so much heart.

I think the worst decision Madge has made is making Mbye captain, he is too hard to drop now. Thompson would be my fullback for the next month.

I cant speak for everyone else apparently saying it, but what I mean by "Play like that all season and we make the 8" is that most other teams are NOT Melbourne. Most other team cant score two tries in 10 mins after being roundly shit on all game. Melbourne has been a close to flawless side pretty much since inception and the only seasons they "won the comp"they got stripped for systematic salary cap rorting.

You think we have had a hard time? How long were Brisbane the ONLY team in QLD and how many comps did they win?

Pennys this yeah, all this premiership window shit and the biggest junior nursery in the world. Last.

We have had some f**king crap times (and I was a Magpie before a Tiger so I know crap times). Honestly if we can hold onto Madge, this is the turning point.

Mbye is becoming a problem isn't he. I'd persist with him because he has all the skills. The problem is that he isn't putting all those skills to use. He is executing really poorly.

I don't know if it is the pressure of captain that is adversely effecting Mbye. Those little things you expect of your captain are just not there...see Smith lay down the law and lift the Storm. He is just not firing at 100% like you'd expect a member of your spine to do. Put simply if Mbye and Papenhuyzen were swapped last night we win the game.

He has the skills, I saw them last year, he just needs to lift...maybe give the captaincy to someone else to help his game.

Spot on..I just watched the game for first time and Brooks letting that Kafuusi try happen when it was 16-8 by blocking for a high kick when there was no one to block and no one catching the ball that’s a first ..some courage to go for the ball to at least get in the way would have helped and his passing wasn’t crisp enough to give Mbye time to work a play but Mbye he had a big chance with 19 to go to put the score out to 28-14 he had a two on one out wide but he went by himself and got held up...then with 7 to go 5 m from the line with both his outside men marked he held up the pass and instead of grubbering through for a repeat set or try he passes it anyway with nothing on......it’s not that we cant beat the good teams it’s just a couple of dumb plays from a couple of players that can eliminated with some kick arse attitude instead of being defensive/scared ..Brooks should be barred from play making in the last 5 minutes ..that nothing kick to vunavalu with 5 to go didn’t even reach the try line ...it went down hill from there...

I don’t see anything positive about Mbye, he lacks courage, he lacks the conviction he would not play NRL at any other club and we are paying him overs. The only thing of note I have seen him do was a couple of try saving tackles against Penrith. His defence is ordinary, his positional play is diabolical, he never ever backs himself to take a high ball and he gets in the way in attack. If I was the tigers I’d be shopping him around and backing a young bloke from group 6 to take his place, seriously there’d be better fullbacks running around The southern highlands of NSW than Mbye. He has always been over rated, he was dog shit in the front line and only a mediocre fullback at his best. To quote some of the most interesting posters on this forum he is at best a merkin.

Mind U I noticed Masters was pissing around at the back when Brooks kicked that grubbed to vunavalu ...there was no one there to back it up ..and of course Fanuas last minute tackle bouncing of a guy twice his size ...obviusly he’s gotta hold on he’s not going to knock him over especially when everything’s a bit greasy.....I get the feeling we are at the transition stage where there’s still that looking for a reason to miss a tackle or miss a try coz i might fail if I try thinking ..into the top 4 no excuse thinking but at least we’ve raised our standards now ey...happy if we only lose by 20 yeah right!!

Developmemt of a team under a new ..
(proven) successful coach...this side hasn't played together for 50 games. ..half of them met last year
Its a team sport....not a team of 17 individual athletes
They are professional footballers, near on every side in the Comp plays the same basic structures and plays, they are taught these structures from the time they are 14-15 years old. Being professionals and knowing their roles they should be able to walk into any NRL side and put their best foot forward within weeks/months, not years. It’s not rocket science.

I reckon Momorovski needs to be in the side next week regardless of his current form, specialist centre with a bit of speed, Thompson to fullback, Mbye in Canterbury cup. Jennings to the wing. Aloia in the starting side, Matterson and Eisenhuth in the back row. Chee-Kam, Garner, mikaele (if fit), and maybe Packer on the bench. Marsters need to be told Israel Folau is in the market. He has been consistently poor this year.

When the pressure is on I’m talking about the last 5 minutes of yesterdays game type pressure in a pressure situation within that time frame pressure, some can and some can’t . And that’s all between the ears . There has to be players that can..we have them but not necessarily the players that are on overs . But that’s not Madge’s fault. He will be licking his lips for when Mbye Reynolds and Packer free up $2.4m I’m still gonna back us to get in the 8..otherwise why are we here

That’s when they as professionals should revert back to the things they’ve done at training a million times. That’s what makes a professional, you practice, practice and when you’re in the trenches you go to what you know the best, the thing you’ve practiced a million times.

In saying that I don’t disagree with the fact that’s it between the ears, if it was easy we’d all be doing it, but these blokes are at that level where they all should be doing it.

I’m thinking like when the big pressure hits keeping the mind open and seeing the options available..so for Mbye thinking ok so that pass option is a dumb one so what else is there ok the grubber for the repeat set...coz big pressure tends to closes the mind down for a lot of players ...or passing to Jennings for a probable try when he had that overlap instead of going for the try himself which he did and was a maybe ...but yes of course over time that training and inevitable better cohesion is going to get big dividends ...I just think to land the big one players that can see those options and execute under massive pressure are needed and they aren’t that plentiful

Yep...sounds good. So there presumably should be no difference for us if we had Ivan Henjack in charge of Ivan's roster for us....Panthers with Bennett would still be stone motherless last as well being so chock full of identically trained professionals as they are?

Regardless of all that where was Mbye screaming at the troops demanding a win...that’s what I want to see from a captain

Pezz, haven’t you heard, the NRL don’t want him back, the noisy minority and 1 CEO won’t allow it. I guess that’s for another forum though.
