Yep...sounds good. So there presumably should be no difference for us if we had Ivan Henjack in charge of Ivan's roster for us....Panthers with Bennett would still be stone motherless last as well being so chock full of identically trained professionals as they are?

I am saying as a professional trained footballers, it shouldn’t take take them, a team of players all with more than 50 first grade games two or three seasons to reach that teams potential, if it does someone is not up to the standard in that team. We have a problem where at least 6 of the players in our team would struggle to play in the NRL in ANY other squad. I don’t think the current squad under any coach would challenge for a top four position, we are at best 7or 8 and I think potentially as low as 12-13th.

You missed the point, I am saying that this particular group of professionals have reached their standard, they are not good enough. The improvements they make from now on are negligible. Jesus Christ couldn’t turn this bunch into a top four team let alone premiership winners, they have reached their development potential. Without wholesale changes they are going nowhere. I reckon only 8 of our top 30 would challenge for positions in the top four sides, maybe six would be regulars. How te club blow 9.1 million a year on these hackers has got me stuffed!

And you've certainly missed my point. ...development of a **team** under a good coach is a real thing...a good portion of our '05 side wouldnt get a start in anyone else's top 4 side without Sheens that year....same goes for a lot of the storm players prior to going down there. We never came close to having even one SOO player in 05. Look at Penrith....so much for superstar talent being all that it's about

Just to add...and please...no need to convince me of what these guys can and cant do
..this year is this year...a year where Maquire can only do what he can with Cleary's roster...that's not the player's or the club's fault...if they're bog average then what are you gonna do about it this year?? Suggest something constructive for THIS season..Guess what Madge and the playing group are doing ? seemingly working on it...that'll do me untill a better Plan B comes along

I think a bunch of posters have to stop thinking we can just buy a whole new team that will win the comp. It doesn't work like that. You have to develop players.

Two really good examples are Aloiai and Mikaele. These guys have an impact. They come on and dent the line. Aloiai has always had it in him and I bet a bunch of posters were stating get rid of him. This year he is killing it. He just had to find his role as a middle forward and work on his game. He always had the ability to dent the line because he is big and explosive.

Madge to me is doing a great job. He is bringing players on and working with what we have but he is still dropping players who are delivering what we need where he can do that. I'm sure if we had RTS in our team he would be playing at fullback.

Madge has done a great job. His only mistake is making MBye captain.

You cant drop the captain........

First yeah he should have done the stupid leadership group thing until he got a better feel for the character of the individuals in the team

Gee the more replays I watch of that storm last try, the more suss it looks

first of thompson was escorted, and to me it looks like Chambers was short of the line, bounces it then regathers. Should have been a scrum to us

Still should never have been in that position though

It’s not about buying a whole new team. It’s about buying the right player for the right position.

Did we at least speak to Latrell Mitchell when he was going through his contract negotiations at the start of 2018? Probably not

Did we at least speak to Cooper Cronk about coming up? The only reports I remember about him and Wests Tigers were that we weren’t going to wait for him

Did we at least speak to Corey Oates about coming down?

It was a knock on but why bother worrying about it. We were never going to win that game

You would have to ask Ivan Cleary.....a refresher...he signed on the condition of having total control of recruitment which we were all happy about. As for Cronk...he stated that he went to the for the business opportunities that would be available there...he was never going anywhere else and we were still ( perceived as being) No. 1 on the shambles hit parade. Hardly an attractive place to want to come to. Ivan did get us Matterson and Thompson though and we would all thank him for that.

I agree that it's about buying the right player in the right position. Recruiting isn't simple though. I'm sure the club will speak to every player within reason.

Smart signings work. Matterson is a perfect example.

If it was a knock on we should have won. The right decision should have been made. I'm not sure it was a knock on. It was a line ball decision. That is how it goes. There were lots of things that we could have done to win that game but we didn't.

I thought he held onto it, however if the roles were reversed and it was us claiming it as a match winning try over Melbourne I wouldn’t have been confident of them giving it.

You can’t produce diamonds from poo. I agree with developing young players, we have some promising young forwards there, but our backs except for Brooks? are either too old or poo. Maguire will be a genius if he can mould this soft poo roster into a competitive side given that a fair lump of the shit are on longish deals. I know Ivan loaded us up with a bit of the rubbish but Jason Taylor’s influence is still being felt too. He let a couple of pretty decent boys go

Well him being a genius is really what we're hoping for
The way i see it is this...its easy to look back and find mistakes after events have transpired...i can give astoundingly good saturday night lotto numbers as early as sunday morning.
Your classic oceanliner sinking scene...a couple of dozen people in a liferaft...some rowing...some trying to catch fish..others looking out for land and you always have one or two guys at the back yelling about why the ship went down ....there's not enough food !!..no water !!. ..we're all gonna die!!!. untill Shelley Winters jumps back there.. slaps them across the head a few times telling them theyre going over the side if they scare the children again.
In a nutshell...we're rowing...we're fishing and we have a guy up front who knows how to steer a boat....it really could be worse...REALLY worse ..learning to win comes after learning to compete at a whole other level than 16's ...state cup and the rest. ..same reason most of the NRL playing community couldnt handle SOO playing against the exact same players they face week to week..but being professionals they should be able to just slot straight in right?
It's about being coached and competing at a higher level than they've previously known...every NRL and SOO debutant says the same thing. When Maquire gives up on someone i'll take that as a clue.

It is about this year and we do need to look at what Madge can do with this team.I mean look at Brooks he’s gone from a guy that can’t do a repeat set kick hardly at all to a couple of beauties against Melbourne apart from that last one 7 min from the end when the pressure was too much for his poor wee shoulders ...u may say it wasn’t a bad kick but it resulted in us to go back 100 metres after it so I’ll call it a bad kick..straight to vunavalu and not even over the tryline ...but the point is I can’t stand seeing Mbye on overs when...ok I don’t mind if he stuffs up but he’s gotta also show something special to even it up...maybe its because it’s not in his DNA to be a full back ??? Each of the spine has to have that X factor ...Anyway where’s bloody Naufaluma gone ...he was a match winner...Jennings came in Madge’s suitcase that the only reason he’s on the field..

I heard Benji make an interesting comment...He said Sheens hardly worried about defence back then it was all about getting more tries than the opposition..So yip Sheens had the X factor too ...Madge has too and u gotta love how much he dies in that coaches box for the boys and his positive comments after the game after a tough loss
