I am just wondering what people mean when they refer to juniors. Personally, I think there is a big difference between a player who came through all the local junior rep teams compared to an 18 year old who comes in from outside the local system to play under 20s.

The NRL should be encouraging clubs to develop their local juniors and bring them through to first grade. However, given the way the system works clubs that want to be successful need to concentrate on identifying talent to bring into their system from outside at the 17/18 year old age. At present there is no incentive to spend money on true local juniors and even less incentive to look at lower level local senior competitions for prospects. A player of 21/22 who is not in the NRL has passed their opportunity.

In short the NRL needs to remember this is a sport first and not just a form of entertainment. Participation and opportunity at all levels are needed for the long term health of Rugby League.

Well said...

I guess the fact that they have more money to spend and the reality that he will not have to re locate don't come into the picture....keep pushing the anti - millward agenda....ignore the facts....LOL
All OK, I respect you view and don't really need to change your mind. History will show the massive scale of corruption within SGI and this period of SGI history to be the darkest days in years.

As an aside, I have been the chairman of the Board for a few charities over the years and chairman of an Army steering committee. On every occasion without exception the Board took advice from the CEO and when necessary experts invided to the Board meeting.

It is my experience that Boards work to a meeting agenda usually put together by the CEO and agreed to by the Chairman of the Board. In the case of a charity it is the Secretary together with the General Manager or CEO who develop the agenda.

On nearly all agenda items, a recommendation from the CEO is sort before the item being put to a vote.

My point is that the CEO drives the agenda, the Board will vote to approve/not approve after having discussion.

Then why are you blaming Millward for the mess. Wouldn’t this place the responsibility at the feet of Doust and Johnston?

Dare I add that they are both St George boys? Which flies in the face of your other agenda.

You clearly weren’t working with a very strong board..

I started this thread to get a conversation going about who we are looking to fill JDB spot and there is apparently one more spot to fill up our squad. I didn't expect a political agreement. I new to this conversation but trolled a long time. Get focused we won today I'm pretty happy might watch it again. Start a political thread if you know what the hell management are up to.

Great post and poignant re hijackers.
The lock position is really tough and IMO there are no good answers within our existing squad.
High quality outside recruit required and needs to be a specialist 13 not some utility who has 1 good game in 3.
Lawrie is a prop and should be left there and if we can't recruit a specialist lock then IMO Frizz at 13, Host at 11, Robson on the bench and either he or Mc Inness fills in for Frizz at 13 while he rests.
That scenario is stop gap at best but probably the best fit until we get someone decent.
Re political thread re management there are more than enough threads about that and that's not counting the others that got hijacked and turned into them.

Plenty of mail on Twitter saying Mannah to tigers ASAP. FFS I hope this doesn’t mean we’re signing Packer or Matulino

Hi OT
I missed the game today (family get together) but I saw that Host was listed at playing lock. I've watched some replays and looking at the 3,2,1votes he's there in the voting.
So, my genuine question is do you think Host could make it as a lock?
Cheers

Millward is a useless recruiter, The only good signings are a gamble that pays off. Most of his good signings are players that their current club wanted to discard.

DWZ was available and so many on here said we didn't have a chance because DWZ had a close association with Madge at the Tigers; the Tigers had the inside running so Millward did not have a chance to sign him.

Move on a couple of days and DWZ signs with the Bulldogs. Their coach is on a par with Mary when it comes to credibility and the Club is sitting towards the bottom end of the ladder just like SGI. The simple fact is that their recruitment officer obviously had a better pitch than ours. See article below:

DWZ signs with Bulldogs after bitter Panthers exit

The contract saga surrounding Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is finally over after the Canterbury Bulldogs landed the signature of the New Zealand captain on Sunday morning.
What began with interest from the Eels, and led to discussions with the Wests Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys, has finished with the 23-year-old inking an 18 month contract with the Bulldogs.

However the Tigers, who were in the best position to sign him given the relationship with New Zealand coach Michael Maguire, were unable to move a player on in time to secure his signature.

Watene-Zelezniak was released by the Panthers on Friday night after he was dropped from the club’s NRL team three weeks ago.

A huge attraction to the Bulldogs was his existing relationship with Reimis Smith, the son of Watene-Zelezniak’s manager Tyran Smith, and fellow Mormon Will Hopoate – who is also managed by Tyran Smith.

The Cowboys were appealing, however Watene-Zelezniak was reluctant to relocate with his family given he has two young kids.

It’s understood Watene-Zelezniak informed Maguire he wouldn’t be joining the Tigers on Saturday, before agreeing to terms with the Bulldogs later that night.

Watene-Zelezniak’s release from the Panthers opens up a spot on the club’s roster, which as revealed by NRL.com on Saturday, could be filled by Tyrone Peachey.

"The acquisition of Dallin is fantastic news for the club and the vision we have going forward," Bulldogs CEO Andrew Hill said.

"Not only is Dallin a great player but he is a quality person and a leader. As the current Kiwi captain he provides us with both class and proven ability and he will be a major addition to our back line.

"On the back of Joe Stimson from the Storm agreeing to terms last week, Dallin’s signing is another significant step in the right direction for the club and we welcome Dallin and his family to Belmore and look forward to our members and fans getting the chance to watch him play."

The chance to play fullback, could have been a major factor in DWZ going to Canterbury. I rate him highly, but he does lack the ball playing ability of the modern fullbacks.

Host played edge backrow today and had his best game of his first grade career. Could he make it as a lock? That is a good question. We would have to play him there to find out.

As FF said Jacob played edge in attack but as has been the case before sometimes defends in the middle for a set or two which irritates me as we keep switching things around to suit the inadequacies of other players.
I think Jacob is best suited to the edge as he is a good hole runner and has excellent PCM and vision but the issue is the game plan doesn’t see him get enough ball as we keep persisting with the one out hit up stuff.
Under a good coach I suspect he could transition to 13 but not with our coach & tactics.

We desperately need a 13. Our ruck defence is shocking since JDB got suspended.

Not sure who's out there but we should be focusing on someone who can plug the middle like Jack used to,

i think this is all my fault.
in the offseason i found a bottle, i rubbed it and a genie came out. He said 'Your wish is my command'. I told him that I really wanted my Dragons to get unearth another Raper.
I guess should have been more specific...

I reckon cause there isn’t much out there in forward land at the moment we will bring in Saab. Millard will wait for the right opportunity, price and timing for jacks spot.
