That’s first class ripping off the tax payer right there lol. Doesnt say much about Canberra voters that he keeps his seat!
Who else do you suggest that they vote for?

The Liberal party is garbage in Canberra, and lets be honest, voting Liberal in Canberra is basically voting to cut back the public service, which is basically the number one employer in Canberra. It's a bit like asking the town that's built on the coal mining industry to vote in favour of shutting down the coal mine, it's a big ask.

A vote for the Greens is effectively a vote for Labour (and by and large the Greens are f**king insane as well), and realistically there's no other party that comes close to being a viable option.

Labour can basically do whatever they want and they'll still have Canberra in the bag, and they know it to, that's why they treat it as their fiefdom, and that will always be the case until the local Liberal party get their shit together or by some miracle a viable third party/parties come into existence and completely flip politics on it's head. Neither is likely to happen anytime soon.

I'd like to see them take it on the road for 2 years but the GF staying in Sydney is likely part of the deal to get the stadiums done.

The SCG isn't so bad with a full house. Short term pain for long term gain.

  • 2020 Grand Final definitely at the SCG
  • 2021 Grand Final still be negotiated
  • 2022 Grand Final also still being negotiated but likely to be at nuSFS.
  • 2023 back to ANZ.
As for clubs and reg season games, Souths have already confirmed they're moving to Bankwest, and threw a neat backhander at the SCG to boot.

Bulldogs are playing one game there this year and would almost certainly do the same.

ANZ will be usable until Round 15 next year.

Souths that far west will be interesting, I understand why they wouldn’t want to be at the SCG though

Actual quote from their CEO in the article I linked: "Considering the arrangements the current tenants of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust have, we do not believe that more NRL matches at the SCG is good for the Rabbitohs or the sport."
so ANZ is defs only getting a refurb it seems.

lipstick on a pig IMO. All well and good for the lower bowl to be moved in, the upper tiers are utter bollocks to watch a game at.
Until the actual designs and specs are confirmed I'm not sure we can make such assumptions.

Wonder if the NRL will just wear the financial hit of losing 30k ticket sales for 2 years or make tickets a astronomical amount at the SCG?

Dogs to play all non-Sydney teams at Belmore, Sydney teams at Bankwest maybe?

Souths (10) + Eels (11) + Wests (4) + Bulldogs (7-10) + Waratahs (4) + Wanderers (?) + any rep games in all three codes. That’s a lot of strain on the turf over the winter.

Two grand finals at the SCG. Absolute trash.

Well, only one confirmed at this stage, but yes, it would be absolutely stupid if the NRL don't give Brisbane at least one.
Even if it was the Raiders or Warriors vs the Storm for example, it would still sell out.
It's a GF ffs!

Delayed the start of Homebush, did SFS first and now take at least one of the two GFs to the SCG.

The NSW government really bent the NRL over on this one.

Maybe, but at least it's getting done. Labor weren't going to do anything.

Is there a certain amount of games that Sydney teams will have to move to the major stadiums when they're finished? Are teams like Dragons, Sharks and Manly going to be made to take home games to Allianz?

Didn’t the QLD government bungle this up and there was a deal signed to keep the grand final in Sydney. The Sydney bit has been news for quite a while.

Full press release on Rabbitohs position:
https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2...etter-about-the-redevelopment-of-anz-stadium/

TL/DR version

2020: need to find new stadia post round 15 (i.e. after Origin). View is to push for as many home games at ANZ pre-round 15 and will then likely fill the remaining home games at regional sites / Bankwest

2021/22: confirmed BankWest with a minimum of 3 games at regional locations

2023 and beyond: envisage it will be ANZ stadium but doesn't' look like a firm commitment. Looks like they are waiting to see if there's a change in management from the Boys Club/SCGT to Venues Live.
