Best club player I ever saw was Sterling.
Best State player I ever saw was Wally Lewis.
Best International player I ever saw was Langlands.
Best all round club, state and international player I ever saw was Ray Price.
Period.

I’m not gonna diminish Sterlo’s achievements at all.
However when I think of how great Johns was I tend to think back to the 2005 season where the Knights ran last. They did so because Johns spend a large amount of time out injured, during which the Knights were f**king terrible. I believe we flogged them 50-0 at one stage, if I remember correctly.
Then Johns came back from injury and they went on a winning streak. He clearly was the difference between that team being great or being shithouse. He just made those around him better players.

Definitely. He was great - no argument from me.

But compare the players I listed in Joey's last season to:

Cameron Blair
Greg Drake
Andrew Fitzhenry
Mark Laurie
Chris King
Ryan Schofield

I mean...come on...

Sterlo only had an aged, injury-ravaged Brett Kenny to hell him out; Joey still had some great/above average players to help him out.

I'm not denigrating Joey's abilities - he's a deserved Inmortal -, but rather building a case that Sterlo is equally as deserving.

Then cut it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,

With what shall I cut it, dear Liza, dear Liza?

With an knife, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With an knife, dear Henry, dear Henry, an knife.

The knife is too dull, dear Liza, dear Liza,
The knife is too dull, dear Liza, too dull.

Then sharpen it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Then sharpen it, dear Henry, dear Henry, sharpen it.

With what shall I sharpen it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I sharpen it, dear Liza, with what?

With a stone, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With a stone, dear Henry, dear Henry, a stone.

The stone is too dry, dear Liza, dear Liza,
The stone is too dry, dear Liza, too dry.

Then wet it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Then wet it, dear Henry, dear Henry, wet it.

With what shall I wet it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I wet it, dear Liza, with what?

With water, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With water, dear Henry, dear Henry, with water.

In what shall I fetch it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
In what shall I fetch it, dear Liza, in what?

In a bucket, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
In a bucket, dear Henry, dear Henry, in a bucket.

But there's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza,

Yep. He is a massive penis but he was a phenomenal player.

I reckon they have strong cases, too - but never had quite the impact Sterling did.

Just imo.
I would argue that Ricky Stuart was far more influential. His passing and kicking game fundamentally changed how modern halves played the game. He was widescreen compared to everyone that came before him.

I think he should be an Immortal, but I reckon next cab off the rank should be Sterlo.

But I agree - Sticky was a genius player.

Agreed. Even Sterlo knows that Johns was a far superior player. If Johns played in the teams that Sterlo did he'd be the greatest there ever was by a long f**king way.

Yeh, I think Kenny would absolutely be a star today as centre or fullback, but Sterlo might have struggled early in his fictional modern career with his lack of size. I guess he's allegedly the same height as Cooper Cronk (178cm according to Wiki) and with gym work early on he might have been a bit more solid.

Might have helped him manage David Gillespie.

I reckon Sterlo was about as good as Cronk - another good but overrated player, but unlike Sterlo was lucky enough to play his entire career in strong teams.
