Looking it up they claim they can get 65,000 in rectangular mode by the addition of drop in seats.

The fact we have a 65k rectangular stadium in Perth and a 55k in Brisbane, makes the decision to have the GF at SCG look ridiculous and potential loss of goverment revenue.

How do they get more seating in rectangular mode, out of interest?

Drop in seats on ground level.

They had them at the double header last year. It actually throws me that they aren't doing them as the Bledisloe Cup in Perth announced that they were using the drop in seats in August. Annoying because it actually boosts the seating to 65,000.

The flipside to this is that my Origin seat is one row behind the front row and I'm on the 50 metre line, so I am almost as close as you can be.

PNG really need to play more games at home. Would be a lot more fun watching them play in front of a full house at home instead of a half (or less) empty stadium in Australia.

The NRL have indicated this is in the plans:

There will be no Oceania Cup in 2021 as the World Cup is being staged in England but from 2022 onwards the RLIF will look to schedule matches in Tonga, Samoa and Fiji.

“We’ve got to fulfil our pledge to play international matches not just in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea,” Wood said.

“The PNG initiative was very well received in the World Cup and they are a good, strong international country with the potential to stage more regular Test matches than they are.

“We need a similar discussion in places like Samoa, Fiji and Tonga, in particular, where they have got facilities that are capable of staging world class events.”

The Prime Minister’s XIII men’s and women’s teams will play Fiji at Suva’s 30,000 capacity National Stadium in October, while a pre-season trial between two NRL teams is set to be played in the Pacific each year under an agreement with the Federal Government.

“We do have to respect the athletes in the standards they would expect to be accommodated in and the training facilities, and the clubs would have a view of that, but if we are being sincere in wanting to develop the Pacific we have to make sure matches take place in the islands themselves,” Wood said.

crap. its basically a few rows of seats filling in some of the oval bit. No cover and not much elevation.

Wow, the whole stadium looks utter shyt. Very flat pitch. WSS has changed expectations as far as rectangular goes. I would not take SoO back there.

You would if it was earning you $30million! The stadium is stunning and the whole precinct pretty amazing, for oval sports and concerts. Even Origin will be good with it full, sure we'll watch a fair bit of it on the big screens but the whole theatre of it will be amazing in a modern stadium like this.

Good news is they haven't had to flog tickets off at $50 to get a crowd.

You would have to huff paint on the reg, to think that an oval stadium can provide the same seating incline as a rectangular one.
