Different club, same story.

Kiwis playmaker Shaun Johnson is in the firing line at Cronulla, after coach John Morris blasted the former Warriors halfback although he didn't name him directly.

Johnson's exit from the Warriors last year divided fans, after a long career full of great moments but dreadful inconsistency.

But there are now already calls to drop Johnson at Cronulla after he bombed during the loss to the battling Bulldogs, with his poor goalkicking also proving very costly.

There was also an avalanche of Twitter criticism, with very little support for Johnson just a week after he was lauded in the Kiwis' impressive win over Tonga.

Telegraph league writer Paul Crawley ripped Johnson to shreds, saying he "went missing for most of the match, only to stick his head up with a schoolboy error every time you started wondering if he was still out there."

Highly rated fullback Matt Moylan is the other player in the firing line.

"They are both on huge money and it would be a tough call to drop either," Crawley wrote.

"No team can carry anyone, let alone two blokes on megabucks, who come up with as many errors as these two did against the Bulldogs.

"While Johnson is undoubtedly way out in front of where (Kyle) Flanagan is right now when he is at his best, the difference is every time Flanagan runs onto the field he busts his gut to deliver his absolute best.

"While no one has ever questioned Johnson's talent, probably the biggest reason he fell out of favour at the Warriors was because too often he came up with performances like he did yesterday.

"He's the only one who can make that change to his game, unless of course Morris beats him to the punch."

Coach Morris accused players of being too "cocky" and not valuing the Sharks jersey in what was described as an amazing post-match tirade.

"That was one of the worst performances I've ever seen from this club. Awful to be honest," he said.

"Our younger boys are doing a tremendous job…we're not getting it from our experienced men at the moment."

Hey ho let's go RT @sharkcagediving: Today we saw 4 sharks including the male shark with the hunchback who we also saw yesterday. People have suggested we should name this shark Quasimodo, what do you think? #portlincoln #sharkdiving #cagediving

Tragic Fingers@RCBSharks

They were both awful but at least with Moylan it seemed effort based and he's usually good in big NRL games, or at least doesn't become invisible

Got hooked at the end of the game. Commentators were giving it to him.
I think his nickname should be Shovel. All he did all game was shovel it on to the next player.
Not sure if theres some upcoming modelling gig coming up but didnt want to run at all.
Not like thats anything new for longsuffering Warriors supporters. Had 8 years of seeing that shit.
At least it confirms to everyone its the player not the club.
Million dollar player huh. At least management have got one thing right this year....

Where next for Shaun? We know he doesn't respond well to criticism. Negotiate early release and off to Super League? Retire?

Shovel is about right. I remember watching Warriors games waiting eagerly for Shaun to do something spectacular, only for the shovel to be deployed time, and time, and time again. Basically for years on end.

God: Makes SJ one of the most evasive ball runners of all time
SJ: Hold my drink

It's nothing short of a league tragedy.

Must be worried about his legs or something. Isn't even kicking goals for them, despite Townsend and Flanagan being average.

The pressure in Sydney is MASSIVE if it isn't going your way. People think Auckland is a fish bowl.. At least the media are soft as f*ck, Aussie's will rip you apart.

Looking at the Sharks roster, they must be tight, to keep guys like Xerri, Brailey and Williams, I'm sure they be interested in cutting him if it keeps going like this.

It was funny when he was talking about the pressure playing in Auckland with only having one team in the country so he was under a microscope.

That was always crap, because basically anything league is hidden away behind union here. Now he's going to properly wear it in Sydney, he's lucky he isn't at one of the "big" clubs.

Bring on the upset twitter/insta posts.

They'd be crazy to lose Flanagan for him.

As Warriors fans we are a bit soft and forgiving , unlike Sharks fans who expect their players to go out and put it all on the line (and fair enough too) if not it's a long road back and no mercy is shown.

Should’ve been playing fb his whole career.
What about the shit things of fullback play, like those dirty runs out the corner, kick returns, body on the line stuff. He's not the man for that job.

Half or 5/8 is his position and hes played good there before, its just ever since that broken ankle against Manly a few years back hes never been the same about contact. Ever since then he put the running game away basically IMO and might bring it out once a month or so.

Still got something to offer someone, would have been interesting if he chose to go to Melbourne under Bellamy

All that tough stuff you mention, he has no choice but to do it playing FB. Whiles hes not the man for the job right now had he of been playing FB since he was 20 im sure he'd have no trouble doing all that.

Fullback would force him to run, even if its just kick returns. Imagine if he was running the ball 15 times a game, every game.

Playing shit, but he is not the cancer.

Until the cancer is cut out, he has no chance, you blokes have more chance, we are not a team.

Imagine SJ putting his body on the line to defuse a kick.

He'd be trying to bring back the let it bounce game plan the Dragons tried a few years back.

It's nice to fantasise about him running the ball back from kicks and it would be dangerous no doubt, but he doesn't have it in him to do the tough stuff fullbacks do.

And I'm sure he'd find plenty of chances to shuffle kick returns to a winger whenever possible.

When did fullback become such a physically demanding position? lol come off it. Clubs regularly give halves who are still to small a taste of grade via fullback. SJ could easily handle the physical demands of the position IMO.

Its no fantasy, the guy isn't a halfbacks asshole, his talents are far more suited to playing FB IMO. You don't want him leading you around you just want him running as much as possible.
