Garth Brennan and Titans part ways, Holbrook to take over in 2020

The problem for any new coach is Garth Brennan has locked in some unwanted contracts from players who haven't performed or don't want to be there. A new coach may have to make do with what they have as the money conscience Titans may not be happy throwing money away on buyouts. The Shannon Boyd contract made no sense ( 4 years 2.4 million) considering they already have Jai Arrow and Moeaki Fotuaikia. Raiders were not exactly wringing their hands when Boyd announced he was departing and now are 4th on the ladder.

Cartwright - Had one good season, was shit since. Only signed him because he coached him in the 20s
The right coach would unlock Bryce's undoubted potential. No idea who that coach is though.

Latu - What happened to this guy?
49 first grade games for the Panthers in 3 seasons, 6 for the Titans in 2 seasons. Had a stellar 2016 with us and looked a chance of Origin selection if he maintained his health and form, but injuries have been a problem for him especially since joining the Titans. We'd take him back on a modest deal for sure.

Maybe he's not as stupid as he sounds.

You may think he's smart passing it up, but the flip side of the coin is maybe he is being too picky by shunning the opportunity. Look in a perfect world he would have gotten the Broncos job but not everything in Rugby League should be given on a silver platter and Walters is getting on. If the train comes and goes he may never get another opportunity. Riding on the coattails of the Broncos maybe something he may have liked but creating a new NRL force and turning the Titans into no longer the Broncos little brother like Paul Green has done with Cowboys would be something legendary.

Despite Kevin Walters ruling out taking the job the Titans reportedly still have him shortlisted as one of their candidates.

I'll have what they're smoking, if that stadium is hard to get to every club ever gets a free pass on crowds.

The Train station is hopeless for anyone who lives on the Coast itself. Its a decent bus ride to get there. There is no parking adjacent and no bars, pubs to drink at beforehand or after.

I live in Southport and it was pretty easy to get a tram then a train.

A nearby pub doesn't make it hard to get to either.

Robina is a shit location for a stadium, and it should never have been built there.

Sydney having shit public transport and decentralised stadia, isn't a criteria we should judge other cities stadia by.

Ah okay, didn't know. The Warren Smith/Garth Russell FOX podcast spoke about it a while ago, went on that it was hard to drive to etc etc.

To just say it has a train station is a bit misleading. The trainline is the Brisbane to Gold Coast train line that doesn't get within 5-10km of the coast line and suburbs like Southport, Broadbeach etc. To get access from the anywhere outside that rail corridor you're looking at a bus or a drive/park/walk. From memory the closest reliable & legal parking is 15 minutes walk once you get there.

Sure it isn't impossible to get to, but it isn't convenient by any means compared to somewhere like Suncorp or AAMI park.

He was going ok but to claim he was anywhere Origin is ludicrous

Disagreeable little bugger, aren't you? Maybe you blinked and missed it.

Early '17 he was a smokey but the club's form was poor and he never regained his form of the previous year.

On paper they have a better roster than the Tigers (who arent setting the world on fire but are having a crack).

When I watched Tigers v Titans, I swear the ENTIRE game plan in attack was "pass it to Peachey". Literally the entire Tigers defensive structure ended up surrounding him. I was praying they would keep doing it and they did. I'm sure a lot of these ingrained structural problems others are raising are legitimate, but my god the most immediate problem they have is completely crap coaching. Thats the first to fix.

They were building a decent 'culture' under Henry there for a while. Even when getting beaten they fought hard. Then Hayne showed up.

This is Hayne thing is such a myth. The Titans weren't a mighty team in 2016 they just lingered around 8th to 11th position for the whole year and only made the finals on the back of Parramatta getting points deducted. Hayne was still a much vaunted player when coming back to League. He was the best player in 2014 (NSW's best in that 2014 series win) and demanded big money and he didn't even want to go to the Titans. A whole lot of other shit signings plus having the most overrated halfback of all guiding them had more to do with them becoming a rabble.

The rumour is that the replacement for Garth Brennan is the current St Helens coach (former protege of Trent Robinson at the Sydney Roosters) Justin Holbrooke. If that happens then Holbrooke may well bring with him his star half back at St Helens, the French international Theo Fages.

While there were other admin decisions made that were terrible, Hayne totally destabilised the joint.
Henry had all players pulling in the same direction and got a lot out of a squad that wasn’t particularly good.
Hayne got offside with the coach, dragged Ash Taylor and other youngsters with him, got Henry sacked and then f**ked off anyway.
