Laws is Singapore are strict, good chance it was something that would not even warrant a fine in Australia for example, Tourists that visit Singapore are allowed to bring chewing gumwith them, but only maximum of two packs per person. Any more than that and they will be susceptible to be charged with "gum smuggling" which carries the penalty of one year in jail and $5,500 fine.

Before l was married ( many moons ago) ...... l had a girlfriend who was stopped at Customs for having 20 kilos of crack in her undies........
