"South East QLD Titans"

Most (All) places will support a successful team, the real test is when things are tough.

I can’t say for sure why the Gold Coast struggles with sports teams so often, but it’s an amazing coincidence if it’s not somehow linked to the support they get. The AFL team is a basket case too, that’s before we even mention all the other clubs that have failed there.

Their crowds are on par with 4-5 Sydney clubs and Canberra. Not sure why they're being held to a higher standard.

You are probably being a bit generous with Sydney saying there are more than 3 successful NRL teams. I am confident a 2nd and indeed a 3rd Brisbane team will get better crowds than Penrith, Manly, Cronulla etc.

GC already get better crowds than them lol

Mythical QLD vibes and TPAs also aren't the reason they suck.

They struggle to recruit talent because they have been poor for years, this applies to any team anywhere.
They compound this with bad quick fix decisions like the whole Hayne-Henry fiasco.

In 2009 they had a pretty good team playing well. I remember they made the semi's and got beat by the Eels. But already by this time the crowds were falling away.

Its just not a town that is big enough to support a football team. It is a holiday town. 4 games a year would be perfect.

When you’re growing a brand you probably need bigger crowds than most established clubs. It’s not just about who will turn up to a ground, but who will watch you on TV.

For instance the dragons crowds are terrible this year, but their fan base is wide and people will watch them on TV.

There’s a reasonable question as to what exactly the titans bring to the comp.

Crowds aren't the sole measure of success, each of those teams has premierships and a fanbase spread around other areas (E.g. More Manly fans at the Titans game a few weeks ago). These teams survive on the fact that they've been around for decades.

A third Brisbane team would appeal to who exactly? People who don't like the first two composite teams so they hold out for a third with a generic American name? Maybe they can be the Patriots.

Because the Gold Coast is a city of 600,000 (700,000 if you include Tweed Shire) not a suburb of Sydney. They shouldn't be having any trouble getting crowds of 20,000 in an all seater stadium.

Maybe parts of Brisbane hate other parts of Brisbane. Or they could represent the different political persuasions left, right, centre.

Even when you look at who they are thinkning of getting in to replace the coach they are thinking Tim Sheens or some other bland option.
This relocation is probably the first bold move they have thought of since their inception so I am going to support it. Actually it is probably the boldest move I have heard from any club in 20 years so yep I am all in on it.

I am so sick of people pinning dog shit administration onto the area of where the club is based. The Gold Coast air didn’t make the Titans give a combined $1.1 million a year to Cartwright and Latu.

This.

How do players who can not tackle make it to NRL level... and earn top dollar?????

FFS.

The GC’s problems come from how the club is run. Moving them to another city whilst leaving the same people in charge is a huge mistake. If the NRL don’t step in here it’s a huge f**k up on there part and could cause serious damage to the game long term.

The good old double standards. It should be totally easy for any large market with a new team to draw massive crowds but don’t you dare suggest expanding to these areas! We should also expand to Adelaide. It has double that population so it should draw 40K per week easily.

That's not true. GC crowds are about 30% lower than Raiders crowds, not sure why you brought the Raiders into your shitty crowd discussion.

We absolutely should expand to Adelaide, like Perth, Adelaide has a strong sports attendance culture which is why clubs like the Crows, Power and Strikers all get good crowds.

The NRL stepped in only recently, it’s now a new ownership group. They can’t keep stepping in.

Thats not true..
not bagging raiders crowds but here's a table for last years stadiums averages for last years regular season

you'll see that Robina is a couple thousand higher than Canberra and also better than shark park and Brookvale, and basically on par with ANZ.

Like other posters have said, despite the media's dribble the gold coasts problem is not their crowds (relative to other clubs), its the actual organisation, moving it an hour north will do nothing but sabotage a chance at a second Brisbane team that can actually compete with the Broncos and alienate the fans on the coast. Lose-Lose

I'd rather they leave them where they are but if they do relocate and rebrand bring in the Hunters and base them out of the Goldie with a few games taken every yr back to PNG and get Perth in.

Golden State Warriors is a succesful name in American sport.
Maybe the Titans could be the Sunshine State Titans.
(South East Queensland is not good).
That's because Americans are stupid and have many many redundant names.
Houston vs Texas
Florida vs Tampa Bay.

If we go down that route we are officially fuxked.

GC doesn't like sport. It's a tourist town full of botox, night clubs and fast cars, nobody watches sport here look at EVERY sports team in the area.
We lost 3 league teams, hockey team, 2 basketball teams, (yes Aussie Rules will work anywhere), and currently the A Grade comp has 6 teams. We used to have 13....
Titans are just breathing, bring out the pillow and end the misery.
Bring on Perth ASAP now the union has moved out
