Over at TotalRL they seem to be alluding to the 9's French team being an A team. Doubt this to be real, but be good if after the 9's tournament France plays PNG at home.

https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/ilias-bergal-scores-six-tries-as-toulouse-rout-rochdale/

Winger Ilias Bergal scored six tries as Toulouse hammered Rochdale 68-0 in the Championship.

Bergal, 23, joined the club from Leigh in the off-season and has been restricted to just two appearances through injury before making his return at the Crown Oil Arena.

The French side ran in 12 tries against the sorry hosts, who are rooted to the bottom of the Championship with just one win all season, and only an expansion in number of the league will save them from relegation.
Former Hull KR centre Junior Vaivai scored his first try for the club following his recent transfer, while Castleford bound Tyla Hepi scored on his 100th appearance.

The result lifts Toulouse back up to second in the table, albeit before York take on Batley on Sunday.

Perpignan-born Bergal came through the junior ranks at Catalans, turning out for their feeder side St Esteve in the French League, before making a move to Swinton.

Despite his double hat-trick, it is some way short of the record in an RFL match – set at 11 by George West of Hull KR way back in 1905.

I’d totally forgotten about llias bergal at Toulouse. The guy is a try scoring machine having scored 13 tries in just 11 appearances for Leigh last year. Makes you wonder why Leigh let him go??

Expansion cities like Lyon, Marseille and Montpelier etc should be targeted for the English league structure with the current elite 1 and elite 2 teams acting as feeder clubs.

Ideally all the French clubs should have academy sides competing with their English counterparts.
They had on a corespondent (name escapes me) on Total Rugby League podcast who was talking about the reserve sides of Catalan and Toulouse and how poor their crowd following is. Seems like if more clubs were to join the English competitions then Elite 1 might die off.

Crowds have been abysmal in elite 1 long before Toulouse and Catalan joined the U.K. league structure.

For me French teams like Catalan and Toulouse and hopefully more teams from expansion cities that I listed in a previous post joining the U.K. leagues structure are the only hope for saving French RL. These teams can generate more money from big crowds and attract more lucrative sponsors competing in super league/championship than they ever could in elite 1. Plus it is also more attractive for kids to want to aspire to playing at a higher level and exposes RL to more kids in the big cities like Toulouse and potentially Marseille, Montpelier and Lyon etc.

Our weekly round-up of the news from the French domestic leagues, in partnership with TreizeMondial.

11 clubs in the Elite 2 Championship

It has now been confirmed that there will be 11 teams in the Elite 2 Championship in the coming season. Villeneuve Minervois and Ferrals drop down to the National Division, while National Division One champions Ille are promoted to Elite 2. The championship resumes in late September and a team will receive a bye each week.

Bastien Canet and Nabil Djalout stay with Carcassonne

After re-signing Garry Lo last week, Carcassonne have continued to extend their squad ahead of the new season. Bastian Canet, Nabil Djalout, Clement Soubeyras, Alexis Alberola, Julien Agullo, Alexis Escamilla, Matthieu Kehdimi, Damien Tetart, Vincent Albert, Amar Sabri and Jonathan Soum have all signed new deals with the Canaries. Clement Arrans, Mathias Leveille and Leopold Edline have signed their first Elite contracts, while Tony Tumusa and Jamie Anderson’s futures at the club remain uncertain.

Spanish international is first new signing for Carcassonne

As well as a number of retentions, Carcassonne have unveiled their first new signing for 2019/20. Spanish international Anthony Delgado is back at the club after a two year absence. He scored nine tries in 14 games for Villegailhenc in Elite 2 last season, and helped them to reach the Championship final.

Three new players for St Gaudens

New St Gaudens coach Julien Gerin has signed two of his former players, Jack Wilshere and Theo Delage, as well as bringing in Marwan Medjebeur, who returns to rugby league following a spell in rugby union.

Players changing code

A number of players have departed French clubs to switch codes and play rugby union. Palau’s Tayeb Aroun will move to Perpignan-based club FLHV, who play in the Federal division. Pia rookies Anthony Durand and Benoit Xancho, who have been with the club since May, also leave to join FLHV, following Jordan Sigismeau who had committed a few weeks ago.

Noguera returns to Palau

Antoine Noguera has returned to Palau to work as manager with coach, former Super League player Olivier Elima. Noguera first left the club four years ago, and has since been with XIII Catalan and Pia.

Are the 3 trialists from rugby union?

Heard nothing but good things about young backrower goffin. It’s about time more French youngsters had a shot at 1st team action with the dragons instead of average overseas players.
