Seems no one knows the answer to my above question.

It just appears to me that we lack talent in our assistant coaching staff. Most clubs have assistant coaches that are ready to move on to a head coaching role. Who do we have that could take over? It’s just something I’ve been thinking about lately and makes me wonder if BA is too insecure to bring in a great assistant. Thoughts?

We’ve got Mick Potter who has already been a head coach.

We’ve also got David Kidwell who was previously head coach of the New Zealand Kiwis.

Who are the assistants at all the other clubs who are ready to step up into a head coaching role?

Jim Dymock, Jason? Demetriou, Jason Taylor, Jason Ryles, Cheriaco Mescia, John Cartwright .............

Mescia is a trainer / conditioning coach, think Taylor isn’t an assistant coach anymore but North Sydney coach NSW cup coach.

That only makes 4 from that list, the only other ones regularly mentioned is Adam O’brien and Craig Fitzgibbon. So that’s 6 potential NRL coaches out of 32 or so assistant coaches in the NRL.

Interestingly 4 of the 6 are with the roosters / storm / Souths........

Additionally if BA was insecure about appointing experienced assistants, Kidwell / potter do have a lot more NRL experience and better league resumes, then BA ever had....,or even got closed too ....

Everyone was crying when we lost Peter Gentle. He followed Anthony Seibold to the Broncos and seems to have lost his magic touch.

The Parramatta Eels have scheduled a review of the performance of the club's football program for June, with coach Brad Arthur's future to be the main topic of discussion.

The Eels have decided to hold off on discussions around the club's future until after the mid-way point of the season, giving Arthur ample time to prove he is worthy of an extension beyond the end of his current deal.

While the Eels may not make an announcement directly after the meeting, it's understood Arthur will have a very strong indication whether he will have a job next season after the review.

The operative phrase here 'review of the performance of the clubs football program....with coach BA's future to be the main topic of discussion'. This is not the same as a review of the club's football program. The article is 100% focussed on BA's future, and to me just seems like loose journalism.

The article below is from the same time, and makes no mention of a broader review, just that they are going to review his contract status in June.

Parramatta have given coach Brad Arthur until mid-season to prove himself, putting off contract negotiations until June.
The Australian is reporting Arthur has been at the club for five years and is off-contract next season, but CEO Bernie Gurr wants to be sure he is the right man to take them forward — particularly after last year’s wooden spoon.

This is in contrast to contract negotiations at the Bulldogs and the Dragons, who have already begun talks with their head coaches in order to end speculation around their future

“The reality is that the board and I have considered what is fair and reasonable,” Gurr told The Australian.

“So we want to put a set time frame around that. That has been discussed with Brad. What we think is that by saying we will review it in June that provides a fair time period to demonstrate improved performance in the footy team.

“That is only fair to Brad, his coaching staff and the players. They have an opportunity to demonstrate improved performance.”

Gurr said the June deadline was decided after looking at the draw, and the commitment to give Arthur a fair and reasonable time to find success with the playing group.

A host of players will come off contract for the Eels at the end of the year including Clint Gutherson and Mitchell Moses. Gutherson has a close relationship with Arthur and it is believed he may hold off his own contract talks until the coach’s future has been determined.

Sat on the same table as Sean McElduff - Chairman, in the chairman’s lounge today.
Good guy, wanting the reforms to go through. Mentioned there are elections coming up again next week or one after, sorry forgot, to be held at bank west.
Asked to get as many people out to vote on this coming election.
Who will be attending?
And has anyone received notice on when they will be held?

Dear Members and Supporters,

I am writing to you to encourage you to Save the Date of 10thSeptember 2019. The is the date for the meeting for a vote on constitutional reform at the Parramatta Leagues Club (“PLC”).

As the owner of the Parramatta National Rugby League Club (“the Parramatta Eels or Football Club”), the PLC has an important role in the ongoing success and stability of the Parramatta Eels. Whilst not involved in the active management and oversight of the Parramatta Eels, the PLC does provide financial support and two of seven Parramatta Eels board members whose role is to provide oversight and direction on the management of the Parramatta Eels.

I want to encourage all Parramatta Eels Members and Supporters who are eligible PLC voting members to attend the General Meeting at Bankwest Stadium on Tuesday 10th September 2019 commencing at 7pm in the Cumberland Lounge.

This is one of the most important meetings in the Parramatta Eels recent history as eligible PLC voting Members will have an opportunity to endorse important governance reforms that will ensure that the stability and growth that we have achieved over the last three years in the Football Club continues.

The Parramatta Eel’s current independent Board members, Management, staff, players and coaches are united in their support for the proposed reforms that will: -

  • See the Parramatta Eels included in the PLC constitution for the first time and ensure that the Eels remains in full ownership of PLC Members.
  • Provide certainty for the future funding of the Parramatta Eels and junior league.
  • Allow the Administrator to appoint the first Board enabling a pathway for PLC Members to elect future PLC Board members.
  • Introduce a triennial system for Member elections so that electing future Board members is done in an orderly fashion thus eliminating the constant changes caused by voting blocks and factions.
  • Introduce Postal and Electronic voting to ensure all Members can have their say.
The proposed reforms as being put forward to members to ensure the PLC and PNRL continue to build on the last 2 plus years. A few key points I would to highlights are:-

  • General elections for all seven board positions have been problematic in the last two election cycles. They have been marred with poor publicity and embarrassment for the club and subsequently some members of those boards have been found to be not fit and proper by the regulator or were removed by the government. The appointment of the first board ensures a safer transition from administrator back to an elected board.
  • Members will get to select their board via the acknowledged best practice of using a triennial rule for future elections. This will ensure that the history of Directors only being elected via the popularity of their ticket is avoided. A key problem with the make up of previous Boards.
  • A stable environment for our Leagues Club is critical to ensure the management, staff, coaches and players at the Parramatta Eels are able to focus on their set roles and responsibilities. To do this they need certainty and skilled directors at Board level for both the Parramatta Eels and the PLC.
Most of you know that we have not had a stable environment during our recent past history. It doesn’t really matter how or why this happened but the facts remain that during the period between 2009-2016, the Parramatta Eels had:

  • 5 coaches;
  • 6 CEOs;
  • 25 Directors; and
  • 5 Salary Cap breaches
Whilst some level of change is necessary, the constant changes in leadership that occurred over this period of time created too much instability and uncertainty for our coaches, management, staff and players and our performance on and off the field suffered.

In the three years to Oct 2017, the Parramatta Eels made an operating loss of over $32m. Over this period, our financial performance was in the bottom 25% of NRL clubs when it should be in the top 25%. Last year, we were able to reduce this operating loss to under $4m but we need to continue to do better over the next 3 years.

Over the last two plus years, our coaches, players and management have been able to operate in a more stable environment and as a consequence, important initiatives such as the Football Review, our three-year Strategic Plan and our new $40m Community and high performance facility at Kellyville Park are being delivered. Importantly, our on field performance has improved.

The Football Club with your support, is starting to move towards its rightful place as one of the premier sporting organisations in Australia. We are not there yet but we are heading in the right direction. To ensure we maintain the current level of stability and continue our period of growth, the Football Club is committed to supporting the PLC Administrator, Max Donnelly in his attempt to implement key reforms at the PLC.

It is critical to the ongoing success of the Parramatta Eels that we have stability on our Board. As such, I am asking all Eels Members and fans who are three-year financial members of the PLC to attend a meeting of PLC Members on Tuesday 10th September 2019 commencing at 7pm in the Cumberland Lounge, level 1, Bankwest Stadium.

I urge you to vote FOR in support of Max’s proposed reforms as this will be an important step to ensure that the Parramatta Eels can continue to move forward in a strong and stable way.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

The Parramatta Eels Club is pleased to announce the appointment of David Jordan as one of the five independent Directors on the Parramatta National Rugby League (PNRL) Board.

Mr Jordan was formally appointed today after an exhaustive selection process that began earlier this year, following Anthony Shiner’s decision to step down from the Board due to his expanding senior executive role in Dubai.

Mr Jordan has held numerous senior leadership roles across a range of major Australian businesses including his most recent role as General Manager at Costa Group. His previous roles included CEO of Baskin Robbins Australia, a Board Director of Driscoll’s Australia, and the Australian Blueberry Growers Association.

Parramatta Eels Chairman Sean McElduff said that the nominations committee received over fifty applications and that Mr Jordan’s senior management experience and previous Board roles made him an outstanding candidate.

“David will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organisation. He has a proven track record at a senior management level in driving growth and positive transformations for both privately owned and ASX listed companies.

“This experience will be a major asset to the Club as we execute our strategic plan and deliver on our vision of being a high performing and values based organisation.

“His broad range of skills especially in the areas of marketing, stakeholder management and operational excellence will be a great advantage to the Board and management team and we very much look forward to his contribution in the coming years,” said Mr McElduff.

Mr Jordan expressed his excitement on taking on the new role at an important time in the Club’s history.

“I’m honoured and privileged to join the Club and serve as an Independent Director on the PNRL Board,” he said.

“I’d like to thank the Club for giving me this opportunity and for the confidence that they have clearly expressed to me.

“I know how dedicated and passionate Eels Members and supporters are and I look forward to supporting the Club in delivering the success that we all want to see for them and for our organisation.”
